Working closely with a team of researchers and CGIAR scientists on a range of activities, the intern will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in research for development. Through this internship, enthusiastic individuals will be able to gain first-hand experience in the development of large-scale spatial datasets for sustainable water resources management. The intern will be included as a co-author of scientific papers they contribute to and will thereby learn the process of scientific publishing in outstanding journals.

During this internship, the intern will assist in the following areas:

Provide Geographic Information System (GIS) support to the development of this spatially distributed database. Support to create spatially distributed irrigation water demand rasters for future projections under climate change scenarios. These will be published open access on a specific platform by the team and will be a very valuable resource for water management stakeholders. Support the publication of methods and results in scientific journals, to confirm the scientific rigor of the results and visibility in the scientific community. Work with ArcGIS, including the Spatial Analyst extension, as well as the use of Python scripts.

Requirements

Undergraduates or fresh graduates with a degree in geography, computer science or related discipline. Experience in using Geographic Information Systems, ArcGIS, including the Spatial Analyst extension. Experience in using Python and preferably enhanced coding skills. Experience in modelling. Excellent communication skills in written and verbal English. Ability to work in a team and independently. Ability to work in an organized manner with an interest to produce high-quality scientific work. Ability to work with and process very large datasets.

Benefits

IWMI will provide a monthly stipend to the selected candidate during the internship period.
