About your role: WRI Indiaโ€™s Energy Program has a four-pronged strategy to support Indiaโ€™s transition to clean energy - Clean Energy Supply, Decarbonized Energy Consumption, Energy for Equitable Development and Energy, Minerals & Circularity. The Clean Energy Supply pillar focuses on both technology and infrastructure, as well as enabling policies, regulations and processes focused on enhancement of clean energy supply in Indiaโ€™s energy mix. The Research Fellow (Transmission, Planning and Utilities) will lead research on related energy transition issues at the national and state level in India. This role requires focused efforts on transmission and system planning issues that can support Indiaโ€™s ambitious clean energy targets, while also addressing issues of utilities, consumers and other partners. You will be a recognized expert in Indiaโ€™s energy sector, with experience in energy supply issues, evidenced by writing and publications. How your day will unfold:

Lead, conduct and guide research, develop reports on transmission infrastructure โ€“ planning & economics (central and state level), integrated planning of transmission and generation, utility economics and finance, energy sector institutions & governance, and clean energy technology assessments. Engage with partners in utilities, regulatory commissions, national and state agencies and ministries, academia, peer research organizations and broader civil society to share research and views.Stay informed about utility, regulatory and policy trends, industry landscape and sectoral developments. Participate in partner dialogues, communicate with research partners, policymakers, business and other actors active in Indiaโ€™s energy transition, and represent WRI India on clean energy supply and transition issues.Identify the development of new research areas, with actionable project plans and raise resources for impactful projects on Indiaโ€™s clean energy transition particularly in the transmission sector.Assist with project-relevant articles and other communication documents.Ensuring submission of deliverables and regular updates to donors and partners.Support coordination and dissemination of training and capacity building activities.Support the organizing of internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activities. Qualifications and Requirements we seek: Masterโ€™s degree with a specialization in engineering / energy / science / management / economics or related field is expected. A PhD would be desirable.Minimum 8-10 years of relevant full-time work experience in the energy sector with deep experience with energy supply and transition issues, including renewable energy policies & regulations, transmission and distribution issues, tariff design, integrated planning, capacity building and energy governance. Understanding of energy policy and sustainability trends, both globally and in India.Demonstrated experience with excellence in research, project management and delivering results.Excellent qualitative or quantitative research and writing skillsCommunications and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with teams of individuals and colleaguesDemonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Experience in writing policy briefs/publications and delivering presentations.
