Mission and objectivesSince its opening in 1995, UNFPA in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been working on improving sexual and reproductive health and rights, empowerment of women, advancement of gender equality and advocating for the quality population data to be used for the development policies and strategies. With human rights and gender equality at the core of all interventions, the UNFPA supports progress towards: (a) accessible, affordable, high-quality, integrated sexual and reproductive health services; (b) strong accountability to eliminate all forms of discrimination; (c) empowered marginalized groups, with an emphasis on women, adolescents and youth (particularly girls); and (d) policies that strongly promote human rights. Achievement of these goals includes advocacy, policy dialogue and advice, capacity building, provision of data and evidence for policy development and knowledge management. UNFPA has been providing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) since 1995 through a number of projects and initiatives at the policy and service levels, basing its work on the key principles and approaches, including human rights based approach, capacity building, local ownership and sustainability measures.

This research assignment supports UNFPA Bosnia and Herzegovinaโs broader mandate to promote inclusive societies, social cohesion, and peacebuilding, particularly by empowering youth and marginalized communities as key agents of change. The focus of the task is to explore the role of cultural diversity as a foundation for sustainable peace and social cohesion in post-conflict settings. The research will inform the development of a policy paper and strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening multiculturalism as a pillar of peacebuilding efforts. Insights gained from this work may also support UNFPAโs advocacy and programming related to youth engagement, intercultural understanding, and community resilience. By contributing to this assignment, Online Volunteers will play a key role in advancing evidence-based approaches to peace and reconciliation, while also helping document practical models of interethnic collaboration that can inspire replication across the region.
Task DescriptionUnder the guidance of UNFPA Youth and Peace Program Analyst the volunteer will work on the following tasks: - Discuss and determine parameters for the research together with UNFPA team and representative of partner universities, ensuring a consensus approach and collective buy-in of the methodology - Conduct desk research and collect qualitative insights - Draft a concise report summarizing key findings (up to 10 pages of main analysis, 10 pages for findings and conclusions - with an overall length of 25 pages all inclusive) - Contribute to outlining policy recommendations and potential project activities The average estimated workload includes reviewing and analyzing approximately 8โ10 relevant documents identified by UNFPA, including studies, policy frameworks, grassroots program evaluations, and case studies of interethnic collaboration.
