Research Assistant -Agroforestry scaling (World Bank)
Overview The Government of Uganda (GoU) through the Ministry of Water and Environment has received financing from the World Bank (WB) towards the cost of Investing in Forests and Protected Areas for Climate Smart Development (IFPA-CD) Project titled โIntensive Mixed Use Agroforestry Systems on household Plotsโ. The objective of the project is to increase uptake of agroforestry in refugee host communities in 19 targeted districts in Western and Northern Uganda that either host refugee settlements or are within 5 km of a settlement boundary. CIFOR-ICRAF Uganda is a partner in the project responsible for implementing interventions in six districts of northwestern Uganda (WestNile sub-region). The Research Assistant -Agroforestry scaling will work in a specific district site where he/she will contribute to the delivery of activities aimed at increasing the uptake of appropriate Agroforestry practices to address the needs of the recruited smallholder farmers. The candidate will be involved in the recruitment of smallholder farmers to participate in the project, offer extension services, offer training and demonstration in agroforestry practices, and contribute to assessment of progress.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Extension and action learning
Provide training sessions on appropriate agroforestry technologies to smallholder farmers
Provide technical advice and training to implementing local government partners.
2. On-ground project management
Contribute to preparation of meetings and workshops in the field within their areas of operation
Prepare reports and PowerPoint presentations and make presentations at meetings and workshops.
3. Monitoring Evaluation and Learning
Support implementation of baseline, uptake surveys and impact assessment, data collection and complementary qualitative follow-up assessments
Continuous Professional Development
Use collected research information to contribute to scientific publication
Where possible use data collected to achieve academic awards.
4. On-ground project management
Prepare budgets for funds request and account for spent money
Contribute to preparation of meetings and workshops in the field within their areas of operation
Prepare reports and PowerPoint presentations and make presentations at meetings and workshops
Lead a team of nursery workers to ensure efficiency in production of seedlings.
5. Monitoring Evaluation and Learning
Support implementation of baseline, uptake surveys and impact assessment, data collection and complementary qualitative follow-up assessments.
Requirements
Diploma or bachelorโs degree in forestry, Agriculture, Agroforestry, Environmental science or any other related disciplineAt least 2 yearsโ experience of delivering extension services and scaling forestry and agroforestry services to stakeholder
Basic knowledge in MS Office packages (specifically Word, Excel, PPT)
Capacity to undertake basic exploratory data analysis, write reports
Ability to organize meetings and workshops involving several stakeholders
Ability to operate a motorcycle.
Education, knowledge and experience โข Diploma or bachelorโs degree in forestry, Agriculture, Agroforestry, Environmental science or any other related discipline
โข At least 2 yearsโ experience of delivering extension services and scaling forestry and agroforestry services to stakeholder
โข Basic knowledge in MS Office packages (specifically Word, Excel, PPT)
โข Capacity to undertake basic exploratory data analysis, write reports
โข Ability to organize meetings and workshops involving several stakeholders
โข Ability to operate a motorcycle.
Terms and conditions โข This is a Locally Recruited position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
โข The duty station will be Madi-Okollo, Moyo, Obongi, Adjumani, Amuru -Uganda.
