Established in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank (โ€œIDBโ€ or โ€œBankโ€) is the main source of financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing countries.

Government capacities to efficiently plan, develop needed financial incentives and access, as well as absorb and coordinate international climate finance have been identified as key elements for enhancing countriesโ€™ effectiveness in responding to climate change and promote sustainability and low carbon development. With their capacity to promote necessary financial incentives, manage national funds, leverage international and donor resources and increase its impact and effectiveness through their field knowledge and expertise as well as develop innovative financing schemes, financial intermediates, financial institutions (FIs), national development banks (NDBs) and other key players in domestic capital markets could play a critical role in promoting sustainability and climate finance mitigation and in particular environmental and social risks management.

The Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division (IFD/CMF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks to scale up IDBโ€™s current activities to promote green finance. Through Project Operations and Technical Cooperation programs, IFD/CMF aims to support the scaling up of private sector low carbon and resilient investments and by empowering local financial and capital market players to issue thematic bonds and include Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Climate related information and coordinate and support the structuring of innovative green financing strategies in particular in supporting the implementation of a portfolio activities being executed by the IDB across the Latin American and the Caribbean Region.

About this position

We are looking for a professional with expertise on green finance to support the execution of such financing projects and technical assistance programs as well as participate in the development of new projects related to green finance, and/or sustainable debt, greening NDBs, especially climate risk management, and coordinating with international donors to support these activities. The consultant would also be responsible to ensure that all the support information, including implementation reporting and knowledge materials developed, would be maintained within IDB information systems, information systems from beneficiary clients.

You will work in Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division part of Institutions for Development department (IFD). This team is responsible for address and support member countries in inclusive and environmentally sustainable productive development. The CMF Division also assists member countries to overcome the financing barriers that limit their productive development. Areas of work include financial inclusion, financial and fiscal risk management, financial transparency, housing finance, public debt management, green finance, among others.
