Work LocationUNIC Port of Spain Expected duration6 months Duties and Responsibilitiesโ€‹โ€‹Intern will report to the Director of United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area.โ€‹ โ€‹โ€‹Intern will contribute to and perform the following duties:โ€‹ Monitor websites associated with United Nations offices, agencies, funds and programmes serving the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean to identify and suggest suitable stories and press releases for inclusion in a weekly United Nations Caribbean newsletter; Maintain contact with communications focal points for UN offices, agencies, funds and programmes serving the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean to collect information, graphic design materials and websites links related to key upcoming events and engagements for promotion in the weekly newsletter; Prepare the first draft of a weekly bulletin-style story highlighting upcoming UN observances, Caribbean participation in global UN affairs, and key events hosted by the UN system in the Caribbean; Monitor websites and social media platforms associated with UN offices, agencies, funds, and programmes serving the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean to identify UN job vacancies, consultancies, and internships opportunities for promotion via United Nations Caribbean digital platforms; Use existing Canva templates to create social media graphics promoting Caribbean UN system stories and career opportunities, adding them to the social media content calendar with corresponding first draft of captions; Promote youth-targeted UN system opportunities for Caribbean audiences by identifying suitable options for inclusion in the social media content calendar, along with the creation of corresponding copy for captions; Contribute to the success of UNIC Caribbean-led activities by assisting with relevant tasks alongside team members as required; Collaboratively support the creation of youth-targeted digital content for the social media content calendar. This task will be adapted to match the selected internโ€™s content creation interests, strengths and professional growth goals; Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsPlease note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Additional InformationThe global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) is part of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division, Department of Global Communications (DGC). It is key to the Organizationโ€™s ability to reach the peoples of the world and to share the United Nations story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources. Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. Working in a hybrid format, the intern will support digital outreach, content creation, and stakeholder engagement in alignment with UN communication priorities and SDG advocacy. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area (UNIC) in Port of Spain, and is offered for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full time working hours (35 hours), under the supervision of the Director, Social Media Assistant and any other staff to which they are assigned. Part-time schedules may be arranged depending on UNIC requirements. Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
