Work LocationRemote Part-time Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internship is estimated to start on 19 May 2025. The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (part time - 20 hours). The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) implements measures that reflect the three international drug control conventions and the conventions against transnational organized crime and corruption. UNODC's work is based on five normative areas of activity: (i) strengthening the capacities of Member States to address the threats of transnational organized crime; (ii) combating corruption and its impact on societies; (iii) strengthening crime prevention and building effective criminal justice systems; (iv) supporting Member States in implementing a balanced, comprehensive and evidence-based approach to the global drug problem, addressing both supply and demand; (v) Combating terrorism. Since 1991, UNODC has been working in Brazil with the aim of supporting the Brazilian Government in fulfilling the obligations assumed upon ratifying the conventions and related multilateral instruments. Brazil has ratified the UN Convention against Organized Crime, its three Protocols (against Trafficking of Human Beings, against the Smuggling of Migrants and against Trafficking of Arms) and the UN Convention on Corruption. The project intern may work, according to demand, qualifications, or topics of interest, in the three different areas of UNODC activity: drugs, illicit markets and organized crime; crime and violence prevention and criminal justice; and corruption, compliance and integrity. The project intern will report to the project coordinator. The person taking on the role of Project Intern will perform the following functions: โข Translate documents from Portuguese, English and, occasionally, Spanish; โข Assist in the production of reports and analyses related to UNODC's thematic areas; โข Support the drafting of instructional documents on project management and implementation; โข Conduct research to gather input related to the themes of UNODC's mandate; โข Assist in the construction of a simple database and in the construction of graphical visualizations of this information; โข Support the preparation of presentations and briefings; โข Assist in the management of agendas and events; โข Provide support for consultancy management processes; โข Support the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes; โข Participate in internal and external meetings; โข Communicate with other collaborators to gather information and documents necessary for the project; โข Support the preparation of terms of reference for contracting companies and personnel; โข Assist in simple data collection and processing processes; โข Assist in writing reports on the status of project implementation; โข Perform other related tasks when requested. Qualifications/special skillsโข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโs degree or equivalent). โข Be computer literate in standard software applications; โข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโs or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelorโs, Masterโs or PH.D. Previous internship experience in International Organizations or government is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese and English is required for the internship. Fluency in Spanish is an advantage. This may constitute an obstacle for some universities and other educational institutions to recognize the internship programme.
