The Climate team leads IUCNโs global thematic work on climate change, both to limit the future impact of climate change and to help vulnerable communities and ecosystems adapt to unavoidable climate impacts. The team engages on climate issues from multiple perspectives; from assessing the risks that climate change poses to communities and biodiversity to advocating for improved climate policy and practice; advancing Nature-based Solutions for both mitigation and adaptation centred on improved conservation, management, and restoration of natural ecosystems; and guiding climate investments to avoid maladaptation and ancillary negative impacts on biodiversity and nature-dependent livelihoods.
The CC team works as a delocalised team across several IUCN duty stations with the staff divided between its Gland-based Headquarters, Bonn, and Washington D.C. Office. The incumbent will support the Head-Climate Change and Senior Programme Officers in tasks related to the implementation of several global-scale climate change adaptation initiatives and policy processes.
The incumbent will mainly support to the implementation of the Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Fund and related activities, as well as broadly contribute to IUCNโs portfolio of climate change projects, support policy related work by generating knowledge and evidence from field projects; and support coordination of networks on which IUCNโs CC Team is engaged with. JOB DESCRIPTION The Programme Officer will undertake a range of activities pursuant to the implementation of climate change projects. These activities will include:
ยท Support in the coordination and implementation of IUCNโs climate change initiatives, mainly the Global EbA Fund. This would entail synthesizing project information, drafting Fund deliverables, and facilitation of awareness raising and communication activities.
ยท Support Climate Change teamโs engagement in global partnerships related to climate change adaptation through contributing to joint technical publications and communications, and liaising across IUCN constituencies and external partners.
โข Support work in strengthening the evidence and informing policy for climate change, including representing the adaptation portfolio in broader communications and efforts of the Climate Change team.
โข Contribute to IUCNโs climate change portfolio through networking, development, and review of project proposals and their implementation in collaboration with other thematic programmes, regions, and partners.
โข Support the preparatory work on technical/position papers on climate change.
โข Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by the line manager. REQUIREMENTS โข โข At least 5 yearsโ work experience at a professional level in fields related to climate change, sustainable development, ecosystem management, environmental science, preferably within an international organisation setting;
โข โข An advanced university degree in a subject relevant to natural resources management, geography, sustainable development, conservation science, environmental policy, etc;
โข โข Demonstrated ability to synthesise information coming from different sources, write reports and communicate complicated technical issues to a wide range of audiences and cultures.
โข โข Excellent organizational, administrative and reporting skills;
โข โข Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously, including across projects;
โข โข Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs;
โข โข Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas and perspective.
โข โข Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work harmoniously as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Willingness to collaborate across time zones.
โข โข Well-developed computer skills and evidence of experience with virtual technologies and applications that can be used in creating and engaging virtual networks of collaborators.
โข โข Excellent written and spoken English is required; knowledge of Spanish and French will be an asset. SALARY The minimum gross annual salary for this position is EUR 46'160. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice.
