Background
This position is in the UNODC Programme Office in Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the Head of the Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE) and the direct supervision of the GPCAE Regional Coordinator.ย
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide financial, administrative, and procurement support to the programme in line with UN rules and policies, using UNODC software. Tasks include raising purchase orders, managing travel claims, processing payments, and supporting procurement initiatives.ย Assist in the coordination of programme planning and preparation work; monitor status of programme proposals and receipt of relevant documentation for review and approval.ย Review documents for the programme especially cost plans/budgets, for completeness and compliance with relevant rules and procedures prior to submission for final approval and signature; identify inconsistencies; distribute project documents to relevant parties upon approval.ย Review budget revisions; verify availability of funds; ensure necessary approval and entry in computerized budget system.ย Compile, summarize and enter data on project delivery; draft related status reports, 2 identifying shortfalls in delivery, budget overruns, etc., and bring to the attention of management.ย Draft correspondence on administrative and budget-related issues, and prepare and update periodic reports, briefing notes, graphic and statistical summaries, accounting spreadsheets, etc.ย Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents, concept notes, information notes and presentations, reports, etc.ย Provision of backstopping to the preparation and implementation of technical assistance activities under this programme.ย Support the coordination of the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of assigned activities, to address organized crime including in the minerals sector.ย Perform project support service duties and responsibilities including possible travels across Botswana and the Southern Africa region.ย Perform other duties as assigned.Competencies

Education:
Completion of High school/secondary school is a requirement.ย University bachelorโs degree in business administration, finance, social sciences, international relations, economics, development studies, law or related field will be a strong recommendation, but not a requirement.ยExperience:
A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience with (bachelorโs degree) or six (6) yearsโ experience in Programme or Project administration at the national or international level in a large public and/or non-profit organization, with High school diploma or equivalent is a requirement.ย Working experience in an international organization or the United Nations system would be an asset. Experience in working with an ERP system is required, and 4 experience in Umoja is desirable.ย Experience in project implementation and working with government counterparts is desirable.ย Experience in the areas of Crime Prevention, Criminal Justice, Organized Crime or related subjects will be considered as an advantage.ย Excellent computer skills, including the usage of Office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.), knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling web-based management systems.ยRequired Language(s):ย
