JOB SUMMARY: ย  The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.ย  Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 250 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe. ย  The CSIS Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics aims to unlock the full potential of U.S. partnerships with India and the broader Asia region. While continuing to lead the Centerโ€™s work on India, the Chair has expanded to include emerging economies across Asia, fostering U.S. economic security, economic development, and deepening business engagement between these countries and the United States. We remain the leading authority on state-level political-economic issues in India and have spearheaded multiple funded projects to enhance subnational engagement. We work towards building stronger ties between Indian policymakers and other nations in the Global South. Richard Rossow, is a senior adviser at CSIS, and the Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics.ย  ย  CSIS is currently seeking candidates for our role as Program Manager to focus on the programโ€™s internal operations and staffing the senior adviser.ย  ย  The ideal candidate: โ€ข Finance: Has a deep understanding of budgeting for non-profits; balancing multiple funding streams with different start/ stop dates.ย  โ€ข Events: Has robust experience taking the lead in organizing events including large public events, roundtables, and receptions. This includes events at our headquarters in Washington, DC, but occasionally in India and other markets.ย  โ€ข Operational Efficiency Tools: Has experience in leading the deployment and cross-integration of tools (AI, project management, SalesForce) that can improve an organizationโ€™s operational efficiency.ย  The Program Manager will focus almost entirely on our programโ€™s operations. Candidates looking for research / policy roles will not be suitable candidates for this role.ย  ย  This role pays between $58,000 and $70,000, depending on the candidateโ€™s experience.ย  โ€ƒ ย  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ย  โ€ข Managing the Senior Adviserโ€™s office including preparation for upcoming meetings, some travel, some light scheduling, and expense reports.ย  โ€ข Scheduling meetings- this includes scheduling meetings with officials in India.ย  โ€ข Maintaining the programโ€™s budgeting/ finance- this includes working with the CSIS Finance & Accounting team to develop new project budgets, updating budget projections for the team, and offering guidance to the Senior Adviser when we need to re-allocate resources within a project.ย  โ€ข Taking the lead in organizing our events. This could include 4 to 6 large (150 people) events in a year and a dozen smaller (15-40 people) events during the year. Most of these events will be at our HQ in Washington, DC, with catering and technical support. Some events may be in NY, India, or other locations.ย  โ€ข Tracking our fundraising efforts. Our team typically has between six and twenty potential projects at any one time, and existing projects are up for renewal every few months. We have a streamlined process for tracking.ย  โ€ข Introducing the use of project management tools to help us track our engagements, deliverables, and more. This will include improved use of AI tools that can streamline our work.ย  โ€ข Managing the programโ€™s database including taking steps to increase subscribers and followers.ย  ย  KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: ย  โ€ข Must have at least four yearsโ€™ experience working in operations-focused roles in public policy or related sectors.ย  โ€ข Should have solid knowledge of the India policy environment and key players in U.S.-India relations.ย  โ€ข Must have strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills. โ€ข Computer and mobile phone / technology sufficient to work from home (we are currently in the office Mon-Thu, with Fridays as optional โ€œwork from home.โ€).ย  โ€ข Experience with administrative tasks and attention to detail in all/ most of the following: Databases, event logistics. .ย  โ€ข Must be eligible to work in Washington, DC and commit at least 35 hours per week. โ€ข Must have the ability to work independently with minimal oversight. โ€ข Must be willing to travel to India approximately two times per year for project-related work, including travel to Indiaโ€™s state capitals.ย  โ€ข Must have demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines. โ€ข Education: A candidate must have a bachelorโ€™s degree.
