5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesThe Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), one of the United Nationsโ€™ five regional commissions contributes to the economic development of Latin America and strengthens economic ties among countries in the region and with other nations of the world. ECLAC promotes economic and social development through regional and subregional cooperation and integration, planning technical cooperation projects, organizing conferences and meetings of intergovernmental groups and experts and incorporating a regional perspective on global issues at international forums.

ContextScience, technology, and innovation (STI), including inter alia information and communication technologies, are essential enablers for driving economic, social and environmental- sustainable development priorities. To consistently advance STI as a required multi-sectoral lever for sustainable development will require the establishment of policy directives that effectively integrate institutional arrangements and systems driving science, technological advancements and innovation, capacity development, research and development and financing. Governments, developmental partners, the private sector, civil society groups, and other key developmental stakeholders must prioritize strategies to strengthen knowledge creation, including regional and domestic scientific, technical and innovation capacities. The outcome of this Policy Brief is to support countries of the Caribbean SIDS region towards this purpose.
