5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesIstanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) supports the private sector and foundations to become transformative partners in development through research, advocacy for inclusive business, facilitation of public-private dialogue and brokering partnerships. IICPSD, established in 2011 in partnership with the Government of Turkey, is one of UNDP's six Global Policy Centres. It leads UNDPโ€™s global work on private sector and foundations and supports UNDPโ€™s offices all over the world. The Center focuses on four thematic areas: 1. Inclusive Business; 2. Private Sector Engagement in Skills Development; 3. Impact investing; 4. Resilience and Crisis Response. The Center also hosts four global initiatives: Business Call to Action, SDG Philanthropy Platform, Global Islamic Finance and Impact Investing Platform and Connecting Business Initiative.

ContextThe Digital Platform for Animal Identification and Management in Uzbekistan initiative, developed under the Tech4R programme, aims to create an open-source system for registering, tracking, and managing livestock information. The platform will allow for efficient data entry, traceability, and integration with geographic and veterinary datasets, strengthening transparency and responsiveness in animal health management. The Trainer on Database Design & Integration Workflows will equip volunteers with the knowledge and tools required to establish a structured, interoperable database. The training will focus on relational design, data linking, and integration with geospatial visualization tools. The trainer will guide participants in using open-source or low-cost tools to ensure long-term scalability and national applicability.

Task DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Tech4R coordination team, the Trainer will: Deliver a technical session on relational database design for registration systems (tables, relationships, identifiers). Introduce volunteers to data linking techniques between animal, owner, and vaccination records. Demonstrate methods for integrating database systems with GIS visualization layers. Guide participants in ensuring data integrity, validation, and interoperability with potential government systems. Provide examples of open-source database tools (PostgreSQL, Airtable, or Google Sheets-based architecture). Review volunteersโ€™ data models and provide feedback for structure consistency and usability. Contribute to documentation on data workflow standards for project continuity and replication.
