SHAPE THE DIGITAL VOICE OF GLOBAL CLIMATE ACTION
Join WMO as an Online Communication Officer and lead innovative online strategies that connect science, policy, and people worldwide.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Under the direct supervision of Chief, Global Communication and Engagement, youโll be the digital heartbeat of WMOโs global outreach. You will:
LEAD WMOโS DIGITAL STRATEGY
Shape and execute a forward-thinking digital content strategy that amplifies WMOโs scientific leadership and global impact across web and social platforms.
STEER EDITORIAL EXCELLENCE
Oversee the planning, creation, and governance of digital contentโensuring itโs scientifically accurate, audience-focused, and aligned with WMOโs strategic priorities.
CRAFT CAMPAIGNS THAT RESONATE
Design and deliver high-impact digital campaigns around key WMO initiatives, such as World Meteorological Day and Early Warnings for All, with clear user journeys and audience segmentation.
ELEVATE THE WMO BRAND
Ensure consistent brand expression across all digital touchpoints, upholding Global Branding Guidelines and enhancing recognition worldwide.
MANAGE THE WEB ECOSYSTEM
Oversee WMOโs public website, including structure, accessibility, multilingual content, and user experienceโworking closely with ICT and external partners.
COORDINATE ACROSS THE UN SYSTEM
Build strong relationships with internal teams, regional offices, and UN partners to deliver cohesive, mission-aligned digital engagement.
LEAD AND INSPIRE A TEAM
Supervise the Digital and Social Media Officer and Multimedia Communications Assistant, fostering collaboration and capacity-building across departments.
DRIVE DATA-INFORMED DECISIONS
Monitor performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics and Matomo and translate insights into actionable improvements and innovations.
CHAMPION DIGITAL INNOVATION
Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies, recommending new tools and approaches to keep WMOโs digital presence cutting-edge.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master's degree or equivalent in digital communication, journalism, media studies, international relations, or a related discipline. A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the master's degree.
Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in digital communication, including web publishing, content strategy, and multimedia production.
Experience working in international organizations, scientific institutions, or multilateral settings is highly desirable.
Proven experience in managing websites with complex, multilingual content and diverse stakeholder needs.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in content management systems (e.g. Drupal), HTML basics, and digital publishing workflows.
- Strong knowledge of SEO, web analytics, accessibility standards, and UX best practices.
- Proficiency with multimedia tools, CMS platforms, and digital design software.
- Familiarity with digital storytelling, visualization tools, and multimedia production.

The position is funded from regular budget.
New appointments on fixed-term contract of one year or more shall be subject to an initial one-year probation period. SALARY AND ALLOWANCES
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 84672
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 75104 (in addition to the net base salary) Additional Information:
