The international Organization for Migration is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1951, committed to the principle that migrants and society benefit from orderly migration that respects human dignity. As a leading international organization in the field of migration, IOM works with its partners in the international community to help meet the growing challenges of managing migration flows, foster understanding of migration issues, promote economic and social development through migration, and work towards respect for human dignity and the well-being of migrants.
Since 2016, IOM has been operating in the Comoros, working on voluntary return and reintegration of vulnerable migrants; migration governance; disaster risk management; counter-trafficking; border and immigration management; and diaspora mobilization.
IOM is recruiting an Office Assistant for its country office in Moroni.
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office in Comoros, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Type, format and draft routine correspondence; collate tables, reports, presentations, publications, and other documentation;ย
- Receive, screen and direct telephone calls and visitors; respond to routine internal and external enquiries and/or refer to appropriate contacts /units;
- Enter, retrieve, structure and update selected information and data from various sources (e.g. Intra-/Internet, office files, etc.); present results in standard format;
- Set up and maintain office files and reference systems according to standard procedures;
- Initiate, view and track a variety of administrative transactions in the computerized financial / travel / human resources systems;ย
- Support the organization and administration of meetings, workshops and events (e.g. arranging for meeting rooms and other facilities.
- Assist with arranging for travels: organize transport, logistics, accommodation, documents;ย
- Ensure availability of office supplies and appropriate maintenance of office equipment; and,
- Perform other duties as required. Education
- High school diploma with three years of relevant experience; or,
- Bachelorโs degree in Business Administration or related fields from an accredited institution with one year of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย Experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook;ย
- Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork in a methodical way;ย
- Discreet, details and clients-oriented, patient and willingness to learn new things; and,ย
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.ย
