Within BMS/OHR, the People Performance Unit (PPU) exists to provide substantive leadership to the development and implementation of the UNDP-wide approaches and strategies aimed at creating a positive employee experience and maintaining a safe, respectful and enabling working environment that enables personnel engagement, productivity and performance. More specifically, the team leads and provides advice on matters related to employee experience and engagement, staff relations and respect in the workplace, duty of care with a focus on health and well-being, dealing with sexual misconduct in the workplace, and individual performance management and its linkages with the broader organizational performance.ย
To increase its capacity in the implementation of the OHSW strategy, UNDP is looking for an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist.ย
Scope of Work
In consultation with UNย Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH), UNDPโs General Operations, Security Office and OHS Bureau Focal points, coordinate the further implementation of the UNDP corporate OHS Management system in Regional and Central Bureaus, Independent Offices and Country Offices as per the UNย Chief Executives Board (CEB)/ย High-Level Committee on Managementย (HLCM) โOSH Frameworkโ and UN Secretary Generalโs bulletin on โOHS Risk Managementโ. Participate in the UNDP OHS meetings and UN/HLCM/OSH Forum meetings. Deliver OHS briefing to UNDP OHS Focal Points, OHS personnel and UNDP stakeholders.ย Organize OHS promotional events and informative campaigns including coordinating with other UN-system Organizations operating in Country Offices to organize and hold joint OHS events, training programmes, webinars. Provide OHS technical operational support to OHS Focal Points and recommend proper hazards control measures.ย Monitor and measure organizational OHS core/ key performance indicators and OHS key risk indicators. Review and record OHS incidents and uncovered hazards reported by UNDP personnel through the UNDP on-line incident reporting system/application. Conduct OHS related assessment and audits as appropriate. Liaise with the UN Public Health team regarding the management of the HIV PEP kits as relevant.ย Liaise with UN DHMOSH regarding any Occupational Health related matters. Provide construction safety technical support to the BMS Working group in connection with the ongoing renovation works of the UNDP New York DC1 building. Liaise with UNDP Security Office and General Operations for any overlapping OHS related matters. Coordinate closely with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team in the design and implementation of the UNDP Occupational Safety and Health and Wellbeing Strategy.ย The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.Institutional Arrangement

Minimum Qualifications of the Successful IPSA

Advanced university degree (Master's Degree or equivalent) in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Safety Risk Management or related field is required. Or A first-level university degree (bachelorโs degree) in the areas stated above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.Min. years of relevant Work experience ย
Minimum of five (5) years (with masterโs degree) or 7 years (with bachelorโs degree) of experience in Occupational Health/Safety Operations (in international organizations is required.Required skillsย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Knowledge of OSHW concepts and methods and demonstrated experience in applying them in the development of the OSHW strategies, policies, management systems and quality standards is required. Experience in risk assessment, compliance audits, and emergency response planning is requiredDesired additional skills and competenciesย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Previous experience in organizing and delivering OHS briefings or training is an advantage.ย Previous experience in managing OHS Incident and hazard reporting system is an advantage. Experience in development and delivery of learning capacity building and transfer of knowledge strategies, plans and training programmes related to occupational health/safety โ desired Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops is desired.Required Language(s) (at working level)ย
