Organizational Setting

The FAO Representation in Libya is responsible for the development, promotion, supervision, and implementation of programmes and strategies jointly prepared with the Government in the areas of food, agriculture, and rural development. It also maintains strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government institutions and financial and technical partners.

Reporting Lines

The expert will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Libya, the direct supervision of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Technical Officer, and the Project Coordinators.ย 

Technical Focus

The mission focuses on supporting the development and sustainability of Libyaโ€™s fisheries and aquaculture sector through project implementation and technical assistance. It emphasizes enhancing productivity and resilience of small-scale fisheries in alignment with national and international frameworks. The role includes coordination, capacity building, and policy-relevant reporting.

Tasks and responsibilities

โ€ข ย  ย Provide technical and operational support for the implementation and monitoring of projects and activities.
โ€ข ย  ย Support in the preparation of work plan for projects activities.
โ€ข ย  ย Draft technical reports on project deliverables, concept notes, and project proposal documents.
โ€ข ย  ย Review consultant reports to ensure compliance with terms of reference and specifications prior to submission for LTO approval.
โ€ข ย  ย Capitalize on existing and emerging information to develop knowledge products and tools that ensure the sustainability of acquired knowledge.ย 
โ€ข ย  ย Organize training workshops and meetings with relevant partners
โ€ข ย  ย Support effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
โ€ข ย  ย Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements ย  ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Advanced university degree (master minimum) in fisheries science, aquaculture, marine biology, natural resource management, or related fields.
โ€ข ย  ย At least 5yearsโ€™ experience in fisheries and aquaculture development, with proven expertise in assessing and improving productivity, sustainability, and resilience of small-scale fisheries in Libya or similar contexts.
โ€ข ย  ย Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
โ€ข ย  ย National of Libya or resident in the country with a regular work permit.
