Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Organizational Context and Scope
Since 1999, IOM Thailand has been working closely in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in responding to the challenges of public health and migration. IOM delivers and promotes preventive and curative health programmes in Thailand which are beneยฌficial, accessible and equitable for migrants and mobile populations. A comprehensive approach is taken in addressing public health risks which helps to mitigate and eliminate the impact of communicable diseases, protect migrants and host communities and enhance national health capacity and social services.ย
IOM Thailand is particularly active in the areas of tuberculosis (TB) detection and prevention and has extensive experience in conducting health assessments and implementing behaviour change campaigns. Through its own network of health assessment centers and laboratories, IOM Thailand provides extensive health services to migrants and refugees such as medical screenings (including laboratory diagnostics, immunization and treatment) and psychosocial assistance so that they can travel and remain healthy throughout their stay in Thailand and abroad.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission for administrative matters and the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) in Bangkok, the Migration Health Physicianย will be responsible for medical examination and treatment of the refugees and migrants under Resettlement Migration Health Assessment Programmes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
โข ย University degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of professional experience; orย
โข ย University degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution plus Masterโs Degree in Community of Public Health, Epidemiology, Tuberculosis-related disciplines or other related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.
โข ย With Valid medical license to practice is mandatory.
Experience
โข ย Clinical experience, preferably in internal medicine, TB management and infectious diseases;
โข ย Experience in refugees health program;
โข ย Proven expertise or post-graduate diploma/degree in clinical specialization in the fields of pediatrics, pulmonology, or emergency medicine is an advantage;
โข ย Proven expertise or post-graduate diploma/degree in clinical specialization in the fields of internal medicine is an advantage;
โข ย Proven clinical expertise and/or specialization in public health, health care administration, or healthcare management is an advantage; and,
โข ย Proven master trainer experience is an advantage.
Skills
โข ย Knowledge of travel medicine is an asset;ย
โข ย Demonstrable knowledge of patient safety and infection prevention and control;
โข ย Knowledge of tuberculosis management and experience in interpretation of chest X-ray images;
โข ย High level of integrity, understanding of ethical principles, respect for diversity, ability to work with refugees and migrants from different cultural backgrounds;
โข ย Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine; and,
โข ย Knowledge of migration health assessment programmes.
Languages
IOMโs official languages are English, French, and Spanish.ย
For this position, fluency inย English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage. Working knowledge of Thai and Burmese is highly desirable.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
