Exact dates will be confirmed based on mutual agreement Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship is based in the Office of Stewardship, Environment and Resources (OSER) of the International Seabed Authority (ISA). The International Seabed Authority (ISA) Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and insight into the work of ISA. At the same time, it allows the ISA Secretariat to benefit from the skills and expertise of qualified candidates with specialized knowledge relevant to ISAโs activities. The call for marine scientific research internships is recurring and aims to establish a small team of interns at the ISA to support the promotion and facilitateion of marine deep-sea research activities.This aligns with the mandate set forth by the UN Convention of Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) for ISA to promote and encourage the conduct of marine scientific research in the Area and to coordinate and disseminate the results when available. To put in practice this responsibility, the Members of ISA adopted in 2020 a dedicated Action Plan on Marine Scientific Research in support of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. This framework outlines a deep-sea research agenda, setting forth six research priorities for the coming years. In this context, the objectives of the Marine Deep-sea Research Internship are to: โข Provide the selected candidate with practical experience in the implementation of the global deep-sea research agenda โข Enhance the intern's technical and scientific skills, contributing to the development of capacity in deep-sea research and management. โข Enable the intern to identify emerging deep-sea research topics to expand the MSR Action Plan. In this context, ISA is seeking 2 to 5 highly motivated interns to assist in diversifying the ISA MSR. This UNPAID internship is situated in the Office of Stewardship, Environment and Resources (OSER) and will last for at least three (3)) months. This first round under internship is expected to begin in February 2026. Exact dates will be confirmed based on mutual agreement. RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator for Marine Scientific Research, Office of Stewardship, Environment and Resources, and in collaboration with relevant officers within the ISA Secretariat, duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Compiling and analyzing facts and figures, including graphs, related to ISAโs mandate Assist marine scientific capacity development and marine scientific research initiatives, including womenโs empowerment initiatives 2. Support mapping, analysis and research on topics prioritized by the MSR Action Plan. overview of the major scientific discoveries over the last decade. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with OSER of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) the following conditions must be met.
