About this Position. The Legal Department is seeking an attorney who will advise Bank management and offices with respect to sovereign-guaranteed operations (LEG/SGO).
The Teamโs Mission: LEG/SGO provides legal advice throughout the programming and approval process of sovereign guaranteed operations, and on the formulation of new operational policies and financing instruments (loans, guarantees, and grants).
What youโll do:
- Provide legal advice and draft legal documentation for trust funds, co-financing, investment activities and other transactions for asset and liability management.
- Provide legal advice and support to sovereign and sovereign-guaranteed operations (loans, grants and guarantees) and participate in the design, negotiation and execution of Bank SGO operations, including drafting legal documentation associated with SGO operations.
- Support and contribute to policy development, implementation and interpretation of operational and procedural policies, and other specialized areas of sovereign-guaranteed operations practice.
The services described above will be rendered primarily in connection with loan, technical cooperation, investment grant, and guarantee operations that are being formulated, negotiated, and processed for countries and entities within a group of countries to be determined at the time of hiring, or that are in execution in such countries, as well as in connection with regional operations.
Skills youโll need:
- Education: J.D. (or equivalent) degree from an accredited law school in a Bank member country.
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience as a lawyer, including demonstrated analytical, drafting and negotiation skills, with a strong emphasis on experience in legal research, analysis and advice relating to international transactions or international development. Legal work in international transactions; international organizations or aid agencies; international development projects; and/or public sector policy and regulation.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and at least one other of the Bankโs official languages (English, French or Portuguese) is required. Proficiency in more than two official languages is desirable.

Requirements
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
