ContextThe People in Humanitarian Action (PHA) Team at UNICEF Division of People and Culture (DPC) is leading initiatives to strengthen the humanitarian workforceโs preparedness and response capacity. This includes the rollout of the Surge Responder Learning Pathway, humanitarian learning channel and the development of innovative projects to support a diverse humanitarian talent pipeline. In line with the Diverse Nationals for Humanitarian Response initiative, UNICEF seeks to identify, train, and support national staff across regions to become skilled humanitarians, equipped with technical competencies and soft skills for deployment in emergencies. To support this initiative and ensure timely delivery of project milestones, a UN Volunteer will be engaged. Expected Deliverables: โข Database of identified and selected national humanitarian professionals. โข Coordination notes and reports on training activities (online and in-person). โข A functioning mentorship and peer support mechanism. โข Draft ToR and coordination documents for the deployment roster. โข Communication briefs and updates for internal and external stakeholders. โข Monthly progress reports and a final end-of-assignment report.
Task Descriptionโข Provide operational and coordination support to the Humanitarian Capacity Building program for National Staff. โข Assist with outreach/ in reach, training logistics, and knowledge management. โข Support monitoring, reporting, and communication for project visibility and impact. โข Contribute to Learning & Development (L&D) activities under PHA preparedness, particularly the Humanitarian Surge Learning Pathway and learning Channel. Under the supervision of the L&D Manager, People in Humanitarian Action (PHA), and in collaboration with other partners, the UN Volunteer will: A. UNICEF Global National Humanitarians Project โข Support outreach and selection campaigns to identify diverse national humanitarian professionals. โข Assist in the coordination of core and simulation training modules, including liaising with the global learning center and other relevant colleagues. โข Help design and manage mentorship and peer support frameworks for National Staff. โข Contribute to the creation and maintenance of the deployment roster for trained national responders. โข Support planning and execution of the Annual Humanitarian National Forum for Learning Exchange. B. PHA Learning & Development Support โข Support the rollout of the Surge Responder Learning Pathway. โข Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Humanitarian Learning Channel (SharePoint/Agora). โข Assist with the preparation of learning content, facilitation notes, and online sessions. โข Document lessons learned and best practices across projects. C. Other tasks assigned by the supervisors. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December). - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. - Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org), - Contribute articles/wrjte-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Living conditions and remarksThis is a volunteer assignment, not employment. By sharing your time, energy, and talents, you can support communities in need and become part of something greater than yourself โ a global movement for peace, development, and humanitarian aid. Volunteering strengthens trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and it can promote a sense of belonging and purpose. The UN Volunteer will be based in Istanbul and will be responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials. The Summary of UNV Entitlements (International Expert): โข Current Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is USD 3,971 monthly (including expertise differential) โข Accommodation supplement: At the rate of 20% of IUNV/Specialistโs monthly VLA in each month when residing in Istanbul Please note that the amounts can vary according to fluctuations of the monthly post adjustment. โข Private insurance: Health, dental, life and dismemberment (100%) coverage by CIGNA (including for the eligible dependents when residing together in Istanbul) โข Entry allowance (one-time payment): USD 4,000 โข Exit allowance: USD 225 per month and solely paid upon the satisfactory completion of assignment โข Family allowance based on eligibility and status (per month): USD 250 for 1 dependent, USD 450 for 2 or more dependents (Please read the conditions of service for eligibility criteria) โข Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month โข Free access to different learning platforms and UN & UNV network Notes: 1) It is important to note that UNV assignments are volunteer assignments, not employment. 2) The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the volunteer work. Requirement: Important: In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment.
