Under the general supervision of the division chief and the language technology team lead in Language Services division, CSF, the Language Systems Officer maintains technology tools deployed in LS, including terminology and translation memory resources, and provides first-level troubleshooting for Computer Aided Translation (CAT), Translation Management System (TMS), Neural Machine Translation (NMT), and other AI-based tools.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical point of contact for CAT, TMS, and NMT tools
- Provide linguistic support for the Fundโs NMT tools, analyze various tools in the market, collect test data, coordinate testing with users, collect test results, and propose the best tool that fits the requirements
- Define maintenance plans and fine-tuning for NMT engines; train and periodically re-train customized NMT engines
- Explore the market, including tools used by other international organizations; test new language technology tools (including text alignment tools, CAT tool plug-ins, etc.), and recommend adoption of these tools to the language technology team lead
- Define validation levels for quality assurance; implement automated translation quality-assurance technology and processes; establish quality assessment and rating schemes for external translators
- Experience in maintaining and managing Interpretation workflow management and scheduling systems.
- Have prior experience implementing RSI technologies for Interpretation teams
- Possess knowledge in Speech-to-Text and Speech-to-Speech techniques and technologies
- Document translation workflow processes for translation teams, considering the CAT and TMS systems in place; ensure adherence to agreed-upon processes and suggest process improvements
- Provide support to Terminology Working Group (TWG) meetings; introduce terminology best practices to staff; document terminology policy and suggest improvements to terminology management; develop and maintain tools for terminology bulletins during the Spring and Annual Ministerial meetings at the IMF
Qualifications
Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, is required; or a university degree, or equivalent, and ten years of relevant professional experience is required.
- Prior experience in deploying and maintaining translation and terminology-related technology
- Working knowledge of CAT, TMS and NMT systems
- Excellent knowledge of terminology management and translation memory software packages, such as the SDL suite of translation tools
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills; working knowledge of one or more UN languages is preferred
- IT skills: experience with developing macros, applications using .Net technologies, strong SQL programming skills, Power BI and advanced MS Office tools, including advanced Excel
This is a two-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
