Mission and objectivesSocial inclusion of all children is at the core of UNICEFโs mandate in Romania. To accomplish this, we, along with our partners, central and local authorities and NGOs, developed two models: The Minimum Package of Services for vulnerable children and their families; and the Quality Inclusive Education Package. These models focus on preventing unnecessary separation of children from their families, poverty, early pregnancies, illness, discrimination, absenteeism and school dropouts. They are now ready to be scaled-up nationwide, with national or European funding. Through Communication for Social Change campaigns we are also working on preventing discrimination and violence against children and empowering parents, caregivers and legal guardians, to provide a protective, stimulating environment for every child. UNICEF is also mobilizing resources from private individuals, private sector companies and foundations to support children in Romania and beyond.
ContextIn 2022, Romania was reclassified as a high-income status. Unfortunately, the growing level of inequities and risks faced by children in Europe is also a reality for Romania. With UNICEFโs universal agenda to be โfor every childโ and โleave no one behind,' there are actions that are needed even in high-income countries to address these challenges and inequalities. In this context, the UNICEF Romania office is embarking on exploring new methods of leveraging resources to bring results at scale for children, which will require dedicated technical support on documentation, expanding and digitalizing knowledge management, and aligning with other countries in the region. The role of the UNV is to support knowledge management, sharing,g and document the process while aligning the approach with the regional office.
