The UNDP Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme:
The UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) JPO Programme equips outstanding young leaders with the skills and experience required to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a positive difference in the world. As a pathway into the world of development, the programme offers young professionals excellent exposure to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development while providing a valuable entry point into the UN system.
During their assignments, JPOs benefit from the guidance of experienced UNDP staff members and are actively involved in supporting the design and implementation of UNDPโs programs within UNDPโs headquarters, regional or country offices. Additionally, the JPO will undergo a journey of exposure and growth which will build both personal and professional capacity for a career within the multilateral development sector.

The JPO will work as part of a team and be supervised by an experienced UNDP staff member, including:

Organisational context
The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is part of the UNDP Bureau for Management Services (BMS). It is the anchor of theย global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy and policy setting, guidance, and oversight. In addition, BMS/OHR provides a broad range of HR advisory and talent management services enabling UNDP to deliver fully integrated development solutions and its workforce โ to deliver more and better results. BMS/OHR aims to be at the leading edge of HR in the international development sector by developing high quality and innovative human resources solutions and driving transformation across UNDP.
The purpose of the role is to support and coordinate effective and engaging communications for the Office of Human Resources.
Position Purpose
The primary objective of the position is to support the coordination and delivery of communications activities for the Office of Human Resources. Working closely with the Communications Officer and the OHR Directorate team, the Communications Analyst will be required to plan and deliver engaging campaigns for HR initiatives. They will be required to innovate new approaches to communications, and support OHR teams with any communication needs. The Communications Analyst will need to be a self-starter who is able to work well within a team setting, collaborate widely within and outside OHR and deliver high-quality communication and outreach activities across UNDP within fixed deadlines.
UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across units, functions, teams, and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
Support the delivery of communication activities for OHRโs flagship products and initiatives
- Plan and deliver campaigns for new products and services, in close collaboration with the Communications Officer.
- Draft newsletters and coordinate the gathering/curation of high-quality content from subject-matter experts
- Organize and facilitate regular webinars and other outreach events.
- Provide drafting and copyediting support to OHR teams on launch messages and email communications.
- Provide video editing and graphic design support to OHR teams
- Support the drafting and editing of annual achievement reports
- Contribute to internal communication activities within UNDP, in close collaboration with the Executive Office
- Draft and post messages and create engagement on community groups on MS Teams and Viva Engage
- Draft and post messages on external platforms such as LinkedIn
- Manage and update OHRโs platforms such as SharePoint
- Provide regular updates on engagement analytics
Innovate new approaches to communications
- Using the communication plan as a basis, propose innovative new ways to improve engagement and strengthen communication of OHRโs initiatives
- Analyse data insights and present them as compelling visuals
- Initiate the development of new products such as podcasts, videos, and infographics
- Develop promotional material for OHR initiatives such as infographics, one-pagers etc.
- Share best practices on communications and engagement and promote knowledge sharing within the office
- Liaise with the Talent Acquisition and People Programmes Unit to ensure synergies between internal communication and the UNDP Employer Value Proposition (EVP) Activation Plan
ยSupport OHR with other communication needs
- Support OHR Directorate team in managing messages from the OHR Director mailbox
- Update the OHR SharePoint page on a regular basis
ยThe incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Education
- Advanced university degree (Masterโsย Degree or equivalent)ย inย Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or Graphic Design is required, or
- A first-level university degree (Bachelorยดs degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with additional 2 years of qualifying experience, will be given due consideration in lieu of Masterยดs degree.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Minimum two years (with masterยดs degree) or 4 years (with bachelorยดs degree) of paid working experience in Communications.
- At least two years of experience in using advanced digital tools and software for communication and engagement is required.
- At least two years of experience in managing online platforms, video editing or graphic design is desired.
- At least two years of experience in an organization similar in size and complexity to UNDP is desired.
- Fluency in English is required;ย
- Working knowledge of Spanish, French or another UN language (desired).
