The UNDP Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme:

The UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) JPO Programme equips outstanding young leaders with the skills and experience required to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a positive difference in the world. As a pathway into the world of development, the programme offers young professionals excellent exposure to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development while providing a valuable entry point into the UN system.

During their assignments, JPOs benefit from the guidance of experienced UNDP staff members and are actively involved in supporting the design and implementation of UNDPโ€™s programs within UNDPโ€™s headquarters, regional or country offices. Additionally, the JPO will undergo a journey of exposure and growth which will build both personal and professional capacity for a career within the multilateral development sector.

The JPO will work as part of a team and be supervised by an experienced UNDP staff member, including:
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Structured guidance and feedback, especially in the beginning of the assignment, with the purpose of gradually increasing of responsibilities
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Guidance and advice in relation to learning and training opportunities within the field of expertise
โ€ข ย ย ย ย Completion of the yearly UNDP Annual Performance Review (APR) including learning and development objectives

Organisational context

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is part of the UNDP Bureau for Management Services (BMS). It is the anchor of theย global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy and policy setting, guidance, and oversight. In addition, BMS/OHR provides a broad range of HR advisory and talent management services enabling UNDP to deliver fully integrated development solutions and its workforce โ€“ to deliver more and better results. BMS/OHR aims to be at the leading edge of HR in the international development sector by developing high quality and innovative human resources solutions and driving transformation across UNDP.

The purpose of the role is to support and coordinate effective and engaging communications for the Office of Human Resources.

Position Purpose

The primary objective of the position is to support the coordination and delivery of communications activities for the Office of Human Resources. Working closely with the Communications Officer and the OHR Directorate team, the Communications Analyst will be required to plan and deliver engaging campaigns for HR initiatives. They will be required to innovate new approaches to communications, and support OHR teams with any communication needs. The Communications Analyst will need to be a self-starter who is able to work well within a team setting, collaborate widely within and outside OHR and deliver high-quality communication and outreach activities across UNDP within fixed deadlines.

UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across units, functions, teams, and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.
