The Europe Infrastructure unit is an open and dynamic team, which develops, advises, structures and invests in infrastructures across a number of sectors including power, transportation, telecom, technology, urban infrastructure and utilities.
Our geographic focus includes Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Albania, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
We are seeking an Investment Officer in Belgrade.ย The selected candidate is expected to be able to operate across the entire IFC business cycle, including business development, pre-investment engagements, investment execution, and portfolio supervision.
For market coverage, business development and pre-investment engagements/advisory and other forms of collaborations with private sector clients, the selected candidate will work closely with the team of five focused on Western Balkans incl. Senior-, Investment Officer, Associate and Analyst level.
For investment execution and portfolio management, the selected candidate will work closely with colleagues across the Europe Infrastructure and Energy team on projects across the Europe Region (not only Western Balkans).
Duties & Accountabilities :
ย The role and responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to
โข Market coverage, through gathering market intelligence, mapping market players, building and maintaining strong relationships with private and public sector players, anticipating and analyzing trends, emerging risks and opportunities employing deep sector/country/market knowledge.
โข Identification and familiarity of reform processes and regulatory hurdles/enablers related to private sector investment, coordinating with World Bank Group and external stakeholders as appropriate.
โข Business development, through generating and strengthening client relationships, understanding client needs.ย Identify and recommend investment opportunities across a full range of financial products.ย Identify, recommend and (as applicable) structure and negotiate pre-investment technical assistance and project co-development/collaboration engagements, in service of growing and improving the investment pipeline.
โข Lead investment transactions and manage portfolio investments. Financial products will span a wide range and may include project finance, corporate debt, mezzanine financing, equity.
โข Mentor and coach more junior team members. Actively contribute to and help shape a healthy and productive working culture that supports business delivery and professional development.
โข Disseminate and absorb knowledge and experience across the regional industry department and global teams to support adoption of new approaches and best practices.
Selection Criteria
โข Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, or other relevant field.
โข At least 8 years of relevant experience in infrastructure and energy investment activities โ sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing and managing investments โ is required.ย Knowledge of and/or experience in project development is a plus.
โข Strong business development and client relationship skills demonstrated by track record and ability to focus on clientsโ needs effectively. Ability to interact directly and independently with clients, financial and technical partners.
โข Sound business judgment. Strong analytical and financial structuring skills.ย Understanding of legal, industry, market, environmental, social, and other considerations in any IFC investment.
โข Capacity to innovate and challenge the status quo. Pro-active, solutions-oriented, motivated and able to multi-task under time pressure. Proven ability to convert early business leads into investment mandates. Track record in pioneering investments is a plus, as well as track record in emerging markets and a particular subregion.
โข Genuine commitment to development and to the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy and values.
โข Excellent people skills and team player, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, openness to feedback, new ideas, and ability to guide, and motivate others.
โข Strong written and verbal communications skills in English.ย Knowledge of other regional languages not a requirement.
