International Trade and Productive Policy Analysis Intern

It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship is not paid and is offered on a hybrid basis (remote and in-person)(five days per week; 35 hours; working hours 8:30 to 16:00). The duration and modality can be adjusted on request of the successful candidate and the International Trade and Industry Unit. The schedule can be adjusted on agreement with the supervisor. To work remotely the applicant shall have full access to a computer with a modern browser and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams) installed to perform the tasks within the scope of the internship. The computer must have basic IT security best practices implemented. At a minimum, the applicant should have: • Software and security updates for the operating system. • Built-in operating system's firewall enabled. • Password manager enabled to create strong passwords and to secure access to all UN-related resources. The internship in the International Trade and Industry Unit – ECLAC Mexico will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an \"as-needed\" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of Economics Officer: The intern will support the team in the analysis of economic, social and environmental qualitative and quantitative data and information on the overall areas of: trade relations and trade policies; productive policies; the nexus of social, environmental and technological agendas with trade agendas; policies and agreements involving Central American countries; global value chains and Central America’s access to higher value-added activities; and other relevant areas of substantive research. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Finding, analyzing and visualizing qualitative and quantitative data and information. - Contribute to the drafting, editing and analysis of materials for the team, including in the form of literature reviews and summaries of relevant publications. - Presenting research findings, proposing new or emerging topics, and exchanging ideas with colleagues. - Assist in additional tasks, including researching guest speakers for events, providing logistical support for meetings and preparing minutes. - Compile and analyze information on trade policy measures implemented around the world, and the resulting reactions and countermeasures. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
