Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe. ย The Economic Security and Technology Department is seeking research interns to support our work. We examine issues shaping global technology and commercial competition, focusing on economic policies such as trade, investment, and industrial policy; critical and emerging technologies, such as AI and semiconductors; and economic relations with other global economic actors.ย ย The Economic Security and Technology Department brings together nearly a dozen of CSIS programs to provide cross-cutting research on economic and technology policies and their role in U.S. national security. ย The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($17.50/hour for current undergraduate hires, $18.50/hour for hires with a bachelorโs degree, and $19.50/hour for hires with a masterโs degree). ย ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: ย โข Conduct data analysis to create visualizations for review using Excel and Flourish on economic security and technology policy topicsย โข Produce succinct memos and podcast notes for review on industrial policy, global trade and investment, and technological developments in the United States and abroadย โข Create engaging visual content using tools like Canva for posts, banners, presentations, and infographics โข Draft social media content and other digital mediaย to promote EST events, reports, and relevant researchย โข Assist with events, including video clips, summaries, check in, and other related activities.ย ย KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: ย โข Prior research experience, either within a class or a previous internship in the following areas is desirable but not required:ย ย o International economics and U.S. trade and investment policy o Technology policy in the United States and/or abroad โข A basic understanding of data science, Excel, and at least one statistical software for data analysis โ such as Python, R, and Stata - is highly beneficialย ย โข Research experience, within a class or internship, on regional economic and technology issues - particularly in North America, Africa, and/or Asia - is a plus โข Must be able to work in-person at the CSIS office with the ability to work from home occasionally if needed โข Must be at least an undergraduate student with a junior standing or above, masterโs student, or a recent graduate. โข Must have excellent English-language writing and research skills and be detail-oriented under pressure โข Should be critical and creative thinkers who thrive in an independent working environment with tight deadlines. Proactive problem solving, proper time management skills, and the ability to briefย staff in an effective and concise manner are essential โข Must be able to function well as part of a friendly, small, and close-knit team. The ability to communicate efficiently and effectively is necessary ย All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
