Work LocationESCAP Bangkok Expected duration15 Jul 25-14 Jan 26 Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Setting and Reporting ICT and Development Section (IDS) under the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division (IDD) of ESCAP aims to bridge the digital divide and accelerate digital transformation by promoting digital connectivity, digital technology and applications, and digital data use in the Asia Pacific region through operating the Asia Pacific Information Superhighway (APIS) platform. To achieve these goals, IDS conducts evidence-based analytical research, capacity-building programmes, and demand-driven regional advisory services, and organizes intergovernmental policy dialogues for member States and partner organizations on ICT related agendas. The internship at the ICT and Development Section is from two months and up to six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Prospected interns are supposed to work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member of the Section in the office to which they are assigned. Daily responsibilities depend on the individual's background and the main work of the Section as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: โ€ข Research: Assist officers of the Section to conduct analytical research on various issues related to ICT and digital agendas for sustainable development including the Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Report (for example, various issues linked to ICT such as digital connectivity, digital technologies and applications, digital data and statistics, disaster risk reduction, environment, education, gender, and media). โ€ข Information and data: Compile, process and analyze information and data on ICT for development in Asia-Pacific, including Countries with Special Situations (LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS), which may require econometric skills and economic modeling approaches. โ€ข Programme and project: Support officers of the Section to implement programme and projects related to ICT and digital data for member States in Asia and the Pacific region. โ€ข Website management: Support officers of the Section to update, manage and advertise the Section work in the ESCAP website. โ€ข Organization of events: Support officers of the Section to organize inter-governmental meetings and regional workshops, which may include drafting a concept note and memos, contacting meeting participants, develop a draft programme, and other administrative tasks. โ€ข Other substantive and administrative tasks: Carry out other tasks as required by the Chief of the Section and the Division, including for the organization of the intergovernmental events. Output/Work Assignments: โ€ข Substantive inputs to the development of the Section's analytical research including the Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Report, and the working papers on digital connectivity, innovation, inclusion and transformation. โ€ข Outputs of the programme and the projects in the Section such as concept note, list of participants, meeting outcome report, presentation files, and evaluation sheet, etc. โ€ข Administrative outputs of the work of the Section such as the poster of the events, website update, and design. Applicants: โ€ข are not required to have significant work experience for the internship; โ€ข shall be ICT literate in standard software applications including skills in using statistical software such as Stata; โ€ข have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and โ€ข have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Candidates for the UN Internship Programme are required to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship.
