The Global Policy Network (GPN) has the responsibility for developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDPโs Strategic Plan (2022-2025).
Within the GPN, the Crisis Bureau guides UNDPโs corporate crisis-related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response and recovery. The UNDPโs Crisis Bureau supports emergency and crisis response and ensures that issues of risk are fully integrated into UNDPโs development programmes. The Crisis Bureau assists UNDP and partners to achieve higher quality development results through an integrated approach that links results-based management and performance monitoring with more effective and new ways of working. ย The CB supports UNDP and partners to be more innovative, knowledge and data driven including in its programme support efforts. The CBโs staff provides technical advice to Country Offices; advocates for UNDP corporate messages, represents UNDP at multi-stakeholder fora including public-private dialogues, government and civil society dialogues, South-South and Triangular cooperation initiatives, and engages in UN inter-agency coordination in specific thematic areas. ย
RECEIVING OFFICE BACKGROUND:
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Team (DRT) at the Bangkok Regional Hub works under supervision of the Crisis Bureau. The team provides integrated policy and programme support on disaster risk reduction and recovery in the context of UNDPโs approach to resilience building. The main responsibility of the team is to provide support to UNDP country offices in the Asia and the Pacific in their efforts to strengthen national capacities on disaster resilience and disaster risk reduction. The team provides high quality advice and programmatic support in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects, as well as leading the development and coordination of policy in disaster risk reduction, and disaster recovery with a focus on resilience building and integrated approaches with climate adaptation. The second priority is to build partnership and promote regional capacity building initiatives and collaboration among UNDP, Governments and other development partners to identify, create and share knowledge relevant to solving urgent development challenges.

DUTIES:ย
The intern will assist in the following duties and responsibilities:
The major responsibility will be supporting the Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Team (DRT) of Bangkok Regional Hub in developing innovative approaches for supporting the Asia and Pacific countries on better preparedness and readiness in dealing with disasters and crises. The Intern will mainly focus on provision of support for the implementation of the 4th Phase of the Tsunami Project, funded by the Government of Japan, and coordination with the Partners in Japan.
1.) Provide support to partnerships and communications with the Partners in Japan to facilitate the implementation of the 4th Phase of the Tsunami Project (60%):
Provide coordination support with Japan based stakeholders i.e. UNDP Tokyo Regional Office, JICA, academia and other agencies including the organization of meetings with the partners; Assist with knowledge management including the production of new knowledge/communications products as well as the design and artwork;ย Undertake translation tasks i.e. for substantive contents and communications products from English to Japanese and vice versa; Support to the project visibility through engagement with media, social media and website etc.2.) Provide support to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Team (DRT)โs project management and resource mobilization (30%):
Provide inputs to support the DRT team to further development and/or scale up the initiatives;ย Support research and analysis on the disaster, preparedness areas at regional and country level, and develop concept note as requested; Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and documentation related to the DRT teamโs activities.3.) Support other/ad hoc activities as seen relevant and needed (10%).
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:ย
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Field of study: Disaster Risk Management, Climate Change, Environmental Management, Development Studies, Public Administration, International Studies or equivalent.ย
IT skills:
Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools; Knowledge of HTML an asset.Language skills:
Fluent in English and Japanese is required; Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.COMPETENCIES:ย

UNDP will not pay interns for internship but will provide a stipend (for home-based assignment) in the amount of THB 4,151.25 monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP internship policy; all other expenses connected with it will be borne by me or my sponsoring Government or institution; UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed; Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship; Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan; Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity; Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes; Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.ย Disclaimer
