Intern – Climate Finance Mobilization

Work LocationBangkok, Thailand Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the world’s leading environmental authority, setting the global environmental agenda, advancing the environmental dimension of sustainable development, and advocating for the protection of the global environment. This position is based in UNEP's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. Under the overall supervision of the Regional Director and direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator for Finance and Economic Transformation Subprogramme, the intern will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: 1) Support the work of UNEP in region on financing energy transition such as Seed Capital Assistance Facility and EMPOWER. a. Research and scoping related to possible key actors, exclusively in the context of energy and climate finance linking with UNEP work; b. Engagement with private equity funds, venture capital funds, and project development companies (if possible), exclusively in the context of energy and climate finance; 2) Support the work of UNEP FI: a. Contributions on the regulatory policy side (e.g., work on central banks, net zero taxonomy); b. Contributions to member capacity-building regarding transition finance; c. Support with event preparations of the UNEP-FI Global Roundtable in June 2026; 3) Support the work of Issue-based Coalitions in the Asia-Pacific Region, Raising Ambitions on Climate Action - by supporting inputs to the preparation of the 2026 NDC Review Report for Asia-Pacific. 4) Attend relevant events in Bangkok and possibly Southeast Asia, if mutually agreed on. Other tasks and responsibilities as agreed with the supervisor. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1 year) from Master’s, or Ph.D. programme with a focus on Finance, Climate Change Financing or related area. Prior experience in climate change and financing would be an advantage. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
