Work LocationThis internship is designed to be full-time and in person in New York, but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate. Expected durationThis internship is for four months with an opportunity for extension to a maximum of six months, pending the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The selected candidates are expected to start in May 2025. Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located in the Office of the Director of the Programme Planning and Budget Division (PPBD), in the Office of Programme Planning Finance and Budget (OPPFB), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The focus of this job is to support the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of data-driven products at the service of change management initiatives. This internship offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management. The incumbent will be an integral member of the Office of the Director, contribute to the development of strategic tools and of knowledge sharing initiatives. Duties may include: - โ€ข Support in developing and maintaining a strategic organizational tool for the Division by using Microsoft Project or a similar software. โ€ข Collaborate with different teams within the Division to identify key priorities, dependencies and interlinkages between output, outcomes and tasks to ensure comprehensive mapping. โ€ข Document workflows, analyze processes, and provide actionable recommendations for improvement. โ€ข Track project and program progress, identify risks, and report on key milestones to ensure timely delivery. โ€ข Organize and maintain program-related documentation, databases, and records for easy access and reference. โ€ข Conduct data collection, analysis, and interpretation to evaluate program performance and identify areas for improvement. โ€ข Work closely with team members to document and develop Standard Operation Procedure, guidelines, FAQ, and best practices. โ€ข Monitor discussions and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D. Applicants must meet the following requirements: -Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and design. -Excellent planning and problem-solving skills. -Excellent people-skills including empathy and human centered approach. -Experience with planning virtual events. -Knowledge of metrics and reporting. -Proficient in Microsoft Project or similar software. -Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Slido, Zoom or similar tools. - Knowledge of project management principles and an understanding of process mapping. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis.
