Result of ServiceUnder the overall supervision of the Chief of Sustainable Demographic Transition Section or her designate, compile data relevant to population ageing for countries in the Asia-Pacific region from publicly available databases, highlight existing data in infographics, provide research assistance to analytical papers, support the design and revision of the MIPAA survey and support the servicing of a regional workshop on digital literacy and ageing. Work LocationBangkok and/or home country Expected duration01/07/25-31/03/26 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Asia-Pacific region is undergoing rapid and significant demographic changes, such as changes in population age structures, driven by falling fertility and increased life expectancy. As a result, the region as a whole is ageing rapidly. The Asia-Pacific aggregate percentage of people aged 60 years or over will increase from 13.6 per cent in 2020 to 24.9 per cent in 2050. There are challenges and opportunities related to population ageing, which require forward-looking policies which include all policies promote active and inclusive ageing to encourage and value the contribution of older persons and to ensure that they live longer and healthier lives, policies promoting intergenerational relationships, policies promoting gender equality through-out the life-cycle, social protection policies throughout the life-cycle, as well as in some cases policies to support safe, regular and orderly migration. The Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing provides comprehensive policy guidance. Through the outcome document of the Fourth Asia-Pacific Review and Appraisal of MIPAA, held in 2022, ESCAP member States committed to a set of priority measures to accelerate implementation of MIPAA as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through a project entitled โSupporting the design of rights-based policies on population ageingโ, ESCAP supports countries in identifying designing evidence-based policies on ageing by providing a database of good practices with good policy examples and a policy repository, which helps countries identify existing policies on ageing. A database of good practices also serves as a policy resource to member States (https://www.population-trends-asiapacific.org/policies/good-practices). To further enhance an existing database, a contractor has to be hired to provide summary write-ups of existing good practices that are already in the database as well as further identify good practices, as well as web-based information on these good practices, check and maintain existing weblinks etc. The database of good practices will be used for capacity-building. Through projects on โMainstreaming Ageing into policy frameworks in Asia and the Pacificโ, ESCAP supports countries in the Asia-Pacific region to design policies on ageing and to mainstream ageing into other policies including social protection, health, disaster risk reduction, gender etc. An individual contractor has to be hired to support in the collection of data as well as policies and good practices on ageing in Asia and the Pacific and make them visually appealing to the target audience.
