Mission and objectivesThe Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. The Liaison Office with Japan (LOJ) is responsible for the liaison with the Government of Japan, the country's civil society and the International Organizations, while widely disseminating FAO knowledge in the country.

ContextThe Liaison Office with Japan (LOJ) is responsible for the liaison with the Government of Japan, the country's civil society and the International Organizations, while widely disseminating FAO knowledge in the country. The Online Volunteer will undertake a broad search of topics for the Liaison Office, namely on FAO and Food Security, within the Japanese media including news and social media (both in Japanese and in English). It would contribute to the Officeโ€™s efforts to widely disseminate relevant information to the public in Japan by monitoring topic coverage in Japan and to identify potential risks in advance for FAO public outreach. Through the contributions, the Online Volunteer will support FAOโ€™s efforts to achieve various SDGs, but particularly SDG2.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for one Online Volunteer who will support us with the identification, monitoring and reporting of information in Japanese media, digital press and news on FAO, FAO Liaison Office in Japan and Food Security. In close collaboration with Communications Specialist (supervisor) and with the LOJ Administrative Assistant, the Online Volunteer is asked to: - Discuss and define parameters for the identification and reporting; - Determine methodology for sources screening as well as the reporting tool; - Conduct screening sources as defined; - Report information in the reporting tool accordingly, including any concerns regarding false reporting; - Search for relevant FAO contents to translate into Japanese and draft social media posts, press releases, and other content for communication. This assignment allows Online Volunteers to connect with the Liaison Office as a team and provides an opportunity to develop and hone their skills and to monitor and draft information, contributing to the integrity of online discourse and promoting accuracy and trustworthiness in information dissemination.
