The Finance and Administration Department (FNA) at IDB Invest covers the following divisions: Controllership; Analytics and Information Technology; Operations; and Treasury. The Accounting team within the Controllership Division is responsible for Accounting Policy, Financial Instruments Accounting, Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting.
About this position:
The Financial Instruments Accounting team is looking for a dedicated professional to execute a variety of investment accounting and reporting tasks related to our development related investments (loans, bonds, equities, funds and guarantees) and treasury portfolio (fixed income securities, money market funds, borrowings and swaps). The Financial Instrument Accounting area is rapidly growing due to portfolio growth and increased complexity, thus creating an exciting opportunity for applying knowledge and experience from financial instruments and US GAAP accounting literature to system automation and process reengineering while working in a dynamic and diverse team of professionals.
What youโll do:
- Ensure financial instruments are accurately accounted for in accordance with US GAAP.
- Execute operational accounting activities for financial instruments in the development related investment portfolios and Treasury portfolios.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial close related supporting schedules and financial statement disclosures utilizing data from various systems, other internal sources and external service providers.
- Participate in system implementation projects and contribute to process redesign and spreadsheet automation to improve efficiency by collaborating within the Accounting team and other Corporate functions.
- Assess accounting and financial reporting implications, prepare and document the accounting treatments for complex financial instruments by working extensively with IDB Investโs investment officers, Risk, Legal and operational teams.
- Participate in the related technical research and implementation of current and future accounting pronouncements.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and respond to internal and external requests in a professional manner.
What you'll need
- Education: bachelorโs degree in accounting, Finance or a related field. Masterโs degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum three years of experience preferably working with financial institutions or Big Four accounting firms.
- Languages: Proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
- Soft Skills: Self-management, flexibility, dependability, relationship building, results-driven, with strong communication skills.
- Technical skills: Financial Reporting and Accounting Theory: Understanding of banking industryโs financial reporting, accounting theory and US GAAP accounting principles and rules. Strong analytical skills and attention to details. IT Systems & Applications Knowledge: Proficiency in the use of MS Office package (Excel, Word, PPT). Knowledge of financial and accounting systems and data tools are highly valued.
