The Investment Operations Department is responsible for generating a portfolio of high quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant developmental impact. The business cycle goes from the identification, selection, origination, structuring and execution of transactions to their monitoring. The Department follows a matrix model, with three segment divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and two transversal divisions covering Financial Products and Services and Portfolio Management. In addition, there are two teams in staff of the Chief Investment Officer, responsible for: (i) Marketing and (ii) Business Strategy, Planning and Resources respectively.
About this position
At the Blended Finance Team, we manage the deployment of IDB Investโs US$ 800 million of concessional donorsโ funds towards highly additional and catalytic projects where actual or perceived risks are too high for commercial finance alone. These resources are primarily applied towards gender equality, low-carbon and climate resilient investments across IDB Invest priority sectors. The team works as a cross-cutting product group by providing comprehensive blended finance solutions through a wide array of concessional financial products, including debt, equity, risk mitigation instruments and financial incentives.
In close collaboration with IDB Groupโs Office of Outreach and Partnerships (ORP), which manage the Groupโs relationship with donors and act as funds administrator, the team is also responsible for the technical management of third-party blended finance funds.
What you will do
You will lead the technical aspects of the fundraising of blended finance resources for IDB Invest, including performing the following activities:
Map and stay abreast of IDB Invest sectorial, geographical, and thematic needs for concessional resources. Keep abreast of other multilateral development banks and relevant financial institutions use of blended finance resources. Identify new and monitor existing pockets of concessional resources. Implement a pro-active fundraising strategy that prioritize IDB Invest needs. Create and deliver compelling fundraising pitches for blended finance funds. In collaboration with IDB Groupโs Office of Outreach and Partnerships, build and maintain close relationship with existing and prospective partners, position IDB Invest as the partner of choice for channeling concessional resources to the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. In collaboration with IDB Invest Advisory Division, promote the access to technical advisory resources alongside blended finance funds. Lead IDB Invest deal team for the negotiation of contractual agreements with partners. Lead the internal approval of new blended finance funds. Oversee 1-2 people.
In addition, you will oversee our portfolio management of blended finance funds and facility (โFundsโ), including performing the following activities:
Validate investments match with Fundsโ investment criteria and provide advice to improve project design and alignment with Fundsโ objectives. Track the Fundsโ portfolio of investments, monitoring its impact and financial performance in liaison with the portfolio management and development effectiveness teams. Contribute and/or write internal monitoring and evaluation reports required under the Funds. Prepare and participate in the periodic meetings with donors. Provide support to IDB Invest portfolio management and special assets teams on Fundsโ requirements for waivers, amendment and restructuring in projects where Funds resources are deployed. Oversee Fundsโ internal and external evaluations. Support the continuous improvement of our third-party asset management processes.
Finally, you will support on an ad-hoc basis the origination, structuring and execution of blended finance investments, including performing the following activities:
In collaboration with segment Divisions, support the identification and design of financing products where the use of blended finance is justified. Lead the structuring and execution of the blended finance component in such projects. Facilitate and coordinate access to the various pools of concessional resources. Handle preparation of lessons learned related to blended finance within and outside the IDB Group, including technical input for the design of project-level communication products, including, press release, brochures, knowledge products and IDB Investโs blog posts.
Education: You hold a Masterโs Degree in economics, international development, public and/or international affairs, finance, business administration, engineering or other relevant field.
Experience: You have at least six (6) years of relevant fundraising and asset management experience. Work experience in a private commercial bank or development finance institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean and experience that provides insights in the workings of international organizations, bilateral agencies and donors, and the global context of development finance, in particular in climate; shall be highly valued. Managerial experience is a plus.
You possess a deep understanding of the operational work of IDB Invest or similar multilateral institution. Sector knowledge in the industries in which we operate as well as experience in an international environment, preferably in LAC.
Languages: you are fluent in English and ideally Spanish. Portuguese, French or any other OECD countries language is a plus.

Type of contract and duration
International: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
