The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is inviting applications for the position of Group (Lead/Principal Economist) to lead its Financial Surveillance Group.
As part of AMRO's comprehensive surveillance functions, the Financial Surveillance Group plays a critical role in monitoring and assessing the financial sector soundness and stability across the ASEAN+3 member economies. A key deliverable of the Group is the ASEAN+3 Financial Stability Report (AFSR), which provides in-depth, thematic analysis of financial risks and stability issues in the region.
We are looking for a highly qualified economist with extensive experience in the financial sector surveillance, macro-financial policy analysis, and leadership in an international or policy-focused environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of analytical excellence and effective team management. The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Director (Functional Surveillance and Research) and will lead AMRO's financial surveillance capacity.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead the development of financial surveillance strategies and thematic research to support AMRO's mission, vision and goals.Oversee financial sector surveillance across ASEAN+3 member economies, working closely with country surveillance groups to provide high-quality analysis and actionable policy recommendations on economic and financial matters.Monitor financial sector developments in systemically important global economies and international financial markets to assess potential spillovers and implications for the region.Enhance AMRO's systemic risk monitoring capacity by developing tools and techniques suited to member economies, including a bank stress testing toolkit for use by country surveillance groups.Lead the drafting and publication of the AFSR and contribute financial sector analysis and policy advice to other AMRO publications.Provide thought leadership and direct thematic research on emerging financial sector risks, regulatory developments, and macro-financial linkages.Coordinate and deliver technical assistance programs to member economies in areas related to financial surveillance, systemic risk assessment, and financial stability.Present and communicate AMRO's surveillance findings effectively to diverse audiences, including policymakers, academics, and the public.Supervise, guide, and develop a team of economists and professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting professional growth.Build and maintain strong relationships with counterparts in member economies and other international organizations.Assist the Deputy Director (Functional Surveillance and Research) and other senior management on strategic issues related to financial surveillance and broader institutional priorities.Conduct other tasks as assigned by the AMRO Director or Deputy Director (Functional Surveillance and Research).
Institutional Responsibilities:
Participate in any institution-wide activity, such as AMRO's internal committees or task forces, as assigned.Facilitate training/seminars/workshops to disseminate knowledge to AMRO staff and external stakeholders.Perform any other duty as may be reasonably required in furtherance of AMRO's overall goals.
The candidate should possess:
A postgraduate degree in economics, finance, or other related fields from a reputable university; a PhD is highly desirable.At least 15 years' relevant work experience, particularly in financial sector, macroeconomic analysis, or policy-related work, with a strong track record in international or regional financial institutions, central banks, or government agencies.Deep expertise in financial systems and financial stability frameworks, with proven knowledge of the financial sectors of AMRO member economies.Proven analytical capabilities and thought leadership in financial market analysis, systemic risk assessment, and macro-financial linkages.Well-established network across public and private sectors, with strong diplomatic, stakeholder engagement, and partnership skills.Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities, including the ability to lead diverse, multi-cultural teams and to mentor and coach staff effectively.Excellent command of written and spoken English, with strong presentation and communication skills.Experience in responding to media enquiries, participating in media interviews, and presenting to high-level officials, would be an advantage.Applicants should submit the following to complete the job application:
