Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network with a clear and powerful mission: to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and build sustainable, resilient, and inclusive societies. The timbuktoo Initiative, a Flagship Initiative within the United Nations Development Programmeโs Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA) and part of the Sevilla Platform for Action, aims to revolutionize Africaโs startup and entrepreneurship space by supporting 10,000+ startups over the next decade through capacitation, incubation, and acceleration opportunities provided by our network of University Innovation Pods (UniPods) and our system of pan-African thematic Tech Hubs. One essential responsibility of the Initiative is keeping our varied partners abreast of updates, actions and expansion of the Initiative. To that end, this position will support the regular issuance and publication of the timbuktoo Initiativeโs newsletter.
ContextThis volunteer position offers a creative opportunity to support the design and layout of a monthly digital newsletter that showcases activities, milestones, and stories across the timbuktoo Initiative, like programming implemented in UniPods or startup showcases from our cohorts of supported businesses. You will be responsible for creating visually compelling templates, selecting images, and applying consistent branding in line with organizational guidelines. The ideal candidate should have experience with tools like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or Canva, and a keen eye for layout, storytelling, and clarity. You will collaborate with the timbuktoo Partnership team to curate and present timely, engaging updates for a wide audience of partners, investors, and innovators, ensuring that an informative and quality newsletter is published on a regular monthly basis.
Task DescriptionWe are looking an online volunteer who has experience in graphic design, is self-motivated, and is able to parse and utilize provided briefs and memos to construct informative, regularly-delivered newsletters for the Initiative. The average estimated workload is expected to include a weekly review with the Partnerships team on summaries, synopses and reviews of information provided to the volunteer for inclusion in the newsletter, and a monthly deliverable of the newsletter itself. The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to build connections with the timbuktoo Initiative Partnership team at the Regional Bureau for Africa, and learn about Africaโs development finance, startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
