Save the Children Vanuatu is a key implementing partner, working closely with the Government of Vanuatu with funding from the Green Climate Fund.

The Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) is the largest locally led climate adaptation project in the Pacific, supporting communities across all six provinces of Vanuatu. It aims to strengthen resilience against climate change by:

Implementing scalable, locally driven adaptation actions. Supporting government and civil society to enable local-level adaptation. Promoting collaboration among communities, government, civil society, and the private sector.

Managed by the Program Management Unit (PMU) within the Department of Climate Change (DoCC), the project is delivered in partnership with multiple government agencies.

Where you come in:

In the role of Gender Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Technical Advisor you will provide technical advice and leadership on GEDSI within climate resilience and VCCRP priorities in Vanuatu. The role is supported by regional and specialist GEDSI Advisors from Save the Children Australia.

Working three days per week, you will collaborate closely with the PMU for VCCRP, MoCC, DWA, and key stakeholders, including the Vanuatu Society for People with Disabilities and the Disability Desk at MoJCS, ensuring GEDSI is integrated into all project activities.

You will report to the PMU Team Lead and supports the DoCC in coordinating project implementation across government levels, aligning with GCF, Accredited Entity, and Government of Vanuatu compliance requirements.

You will make an impact by:

Technical Leadership

· Implement and update the VCCRP Gender Action Plan to enhance climate resilience for vulnerable groups, with annual reviews.

· Work with key team members and stakeholders to monitor inclusiveness within the project framework.

· Develop gender and social inclusion indicators and mainstream them throughout the project.

Project Implementation

· Lead the implementation of the Gender Action Plan and Grievance Redress Mechanism.

· Provide technical assistance to enhance gender and social inclusion in the Vanuatu GCF project.

· Support GEDSI-integrated activities, ensuring a ‘do no harm’ approach.

· Partner with CSOs to deliver GEDSI initiatives on time and within budget.

· Provide GEDSI training for staff and partners.

· Ensure gender-responsive, disability-inclusive climate action.

· Work with the Communications Officer to ensure inclusive and accessible project communications.

Project Quality

· Build an evidence base for gender and disability inclusion.

· Share lessons learned and adapt interventions accordingly.

· Stay updated on national and regional GEDSI policies and best practices.

Capacity Building

· Educate staff on GEDSI priorities.

· Develop and deliver training to strengthen GEDSI implementation.

· Health, Safety & Risk Management

· Promote workplace safety and compliance.

· Report hazards and incidents promptly.

· Contribute to health and safety improvements.

Child Protection & Safeguarding

· Maintain a child-safe environment and uphold safeguarding policies.

· Model appropriate behaviour and respond to concerns per reporting procedures.

This role requires:

Essential:

5+ years’ experience in climate adaptation, gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) in international development, ideally in the Pacific. Bachelor’s degree in social science, International Relations, Community Development, or related field (master’s preferred but not required). Expertise in gender transformative approaches, social inclusion principles, and engaging men and boys in gender advocacy. Proven experience leading GEDSI programs in Vanuatu, ideally with the Department of Women’s Affairs or related agencies. Skilled in data collection, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative decision-making. Strong written/verbal communication skills and fluency in English. Knowledge of child rights programming and human rights-based approaches.
