Organizational Setting

The objective of the project โ€œReversing Desertification Process in Susceptible Areas of Brazil: Sustainable Agroforestry Practices and Biodiversity Conservation (REDESER) is to interrupt and reverse the desertification process through actions to address the increasingly strong causes of soil degradation and biodiversity loss in Areas Susceptible to Desertification (ASD) with focused actions, ย but not restricted to the areas of the States of Bahia, Paraรญba, Rio Grande do Norte, Cearรก and Alagoas.


Reporting Lines

The incumbent reports to the Assistant Representative in FAO Brazil โ€“ Programme.


Technical Focus

The Project's actions are structured in five complementary components, namely:
1) Promote the Integrated Management of Natural Resources in productive landscapes of ASD; 2) Promote multiple-use forest management through the adoption and expansion of Sustainable Forest Management among family farmers in ASD; 3) Forest and Landscape Restoration, in order to contribute to the economies of communities and the maintenance of biodiversity; 4) Knowledge Management, capacity development and awareness aimed at communities and institutions involved in environmental licensing processes; 5) Coordination with other institutions, monitoring and evaluation.


Tasks and Responsibilities

โ€ข ย  ย Gather and systematize information on forest management and restoration actions, projects, and programs of the REDESER Project and other partners in the project regions.
โ€ข ย  ย Analyze information on forest management and restoration initiatives in the project area, assessing their impact on the goals and expected outcomes of the REDESER Project.
โ€ข ย  ย Identify potential synergistic actions related to Component 3.
โ€ข ย  ย Support the technical team in the preparation of the final project document within the scope of Component 3.
โ€ข ย  ย Support the development of contents, facilitation of training workshops, and production of audiovisual materials for the capacity building of technicians from OEMAs and INCRAs in the Caatinga Biome regarding the implementation of CONAMA Resolution No. 507/2024, related to sustainable forest management plans for timber purposes in the Caatinga.

Minimum Requirements ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Forestry Engineering or related fields.
โ€ข ย  ย At least 8 years of experience in projects/activities related to forest management and landscape restoration in the Caatinga biome.
โ€ข ย  ย Working knowledge (level C) of English and Portuguese.ย 
โ€ข ย  ย National of Brazil or resident of the country with valid work permit.
