About the Hiring Group RTI International seeks a prospect for the Environment and Community Internship in the Center for Communication and Media Impact within the Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences business unit. The Center for Communication and Media Impact's work ranges from media campaign evaluation and state program evaluation to formative communication research, risk communication research, experimental message testing, impact of marketing claims, consumer preferences and discrete choice experiments, social media listening, and social media recruitment. RTI International serves as the Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC) for the Environmental Protection Agency Region 4, providing technical assistance to community groups in the southeast to build the regionโ€™s capacity for environmental work. As the Region 4 TCTAC coordinating center, RTI works with a university partner in each state to conduct outreach, lead trainings, and provide individual technical assistance to community groups on topics such as identification, applications for, and management of grants; navigating government systems; and capacity development. Internship Learning Objectives: Gain experience in non-profit government contracting. Engage with federal government officials, respected researchers, universities, and community groups. Practice a variety of skills, including evaluation, technical assistance, and community engagement for public health promotion. What You'll Do The intern will assist across the TCTAC, including helping with evaluation components, compiling resources for community groups, supporting state outreach, and contributing to virtual trainings or technical assistance systems. Additionally, the internship may include a related project, the Thriving Communities Grantmakers program, which provides grants to underserved communities in the US Southeast and Midwest. Potential internship tasks are assisting with outreach, technical assistance, Community Advisory Boards communications, and proposal reviews. Responsibilities include: Assist in TCTAC project evaluation, including analysis and reporting. Help prepare for an in-person meeting of the TCTAC team. Assist in data gathering and management. Assist in managing the technical assistance requests through Zendesk. Additional Information This is a remote academic internship supported by an externally funded stipend. The internship will take place from June 2025 through July 2025. The position requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday. RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences. Interns are exposed to the instituteโ€™s mission to improve the human condition through projects, professional development trainings, and networking. Program participants have opportunities to engage with staff and fellow interns virtually and in-person. What You'll Need Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled undergraduate student completing a public health degree. Eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill a program requirement. Documentation required with application. Demonstrated experience in working with university programs and/or community groups. Preferred Qualifications Familiar with collecting qualitative or quantitative data and preparing it for analysis.
