Mission and objectives The Knowledge Project is a partnership between UNDP and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation seeking to promote knowledge generation and dissemination in the Arab region and beyond since 2008. It builds on three Arab Knowledge Reports, the Arab Knowledge Index, the knowledge4all portal, the Arab Reading Index, the Future of Knowledge Report and the Global Knowledge Index (GKI).
ContextThe GKI, a flagship product of the project initiated in 2017, provides a comprehensive analysis of the factors and attributes contributing to knowledge competitiveness across six fundamental sectors: pre-university education; technical and vocational education and training (TVET); higher education; research, development, and innovation (RDI); information and communications technology (ICT); and economy, all nurtured by an enabling environment. To ensure that the GKI remains a relevant and effective tool for measuring knowledge development globally, we are undertaking a second structural revision of its methodology. This involves reviewing the current framework, assessing the relevance of existing indicators, and proposing strategic enhancements, including the potential introduction of new indicators.
Task DescriptionAs part of the structural revision of the Global Knowledge Index (GKI), you are requested to review the current structure of the Index, accessible via our portal: https://knowledge4all.com/gki , and propose new indicators to enhance its analytical depth and address any gaps in knowledge measurement. The aim is to ensure the Index reflects emerging trends and advancements across its various sectors. Proposed indicators must be sourced from reputable international organizations, provide recent and time-series data, and be updated on a regular basis. For each indicator, include its name, source, link, a brief definition, and its relevance to the GKI. Please present the proposed indicators in a clear, structured format.
