DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CRAFT AUTHORITATIVE CONTENT THAT INFORMS THE WORLD.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is seeking an experienced Editorial and Publications Officer to lead the creation and dissemination of high-quality editorial content and knowledge products that reflect WMO's mission, scientific credibility, and international reach.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Reporting to the Chief, Global Communication and Engagement, you will:
1. CONTENT CURATION & EDITORIAL SUPPORT
- Draft, edit, and refine a wide range of materials including feature articles, news briefs, brochures, and thematic publications.
- Transform complex scientific and technical information into engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
- Review and revise content from internal departments and external contributors to ensure editorial accuracy, clarity, and alignment with WMO's editorial policy, tone and voice.
- Consults with author departments and conduct research to clarify ambiguities and ensure factual integrity in all published materials.
2. MANAGEMENT OF FLAGSHIP AND PERIODIC PUBLICATIONS
- Coordinate the planning, layout, and production of recurring publications such as WMO's scientific magazine and member-focused newsletters.
- Liaise with subject-matter experts, designers, translators, and printers to ensure timely and quality-controlled delivery.
- Oversee multilingual publication processes, ensuring consistency across language versions.
3. PUBLISHING WORKFLOW & PRODUCTION OVERSIGHT
- Administer editorial pipelines, tracking submissions, edits, and approvals.
- Oversee proofreading and formatting for stylistic and typographic consistency.
- Maintain publishing templates, style guides, and document standards in collaboration with communication colleagues.
4. DIGITAL PUBLISHING & KNOWLEDGE ACCESSIBILITY
- Support digital publication and promotion of editorial content via WMO's website, e-newsletters, and other platforms.
- Collaborate with web and multimedia teams to enrich articles with visuals, data charts, and media embeds.
- Coordinate with translation teams to ensure regional and linguistic inclusivity.
5. EDITORIAL GUIDANCE & INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
- Provide editorial guidance to departments preparing external reports, policy briefs, and communication products.
- Carries out research around terminological records, glossaries, technical vocabularies and related language tools. Monitors communications materials and identifies changes, developments, linguistic inconsistencies, and variations in different areas of terminology used within the Secretariat and proposes solutions.
- Support the documentation of best practices in publishing and contribute to training activities or internal editorial communities.
- Maintain an inventory of published outputs and contribute to editorial reporting metrics as part of organizational monitoring efforts.
6. AD HOC CONTRIBUTIONS
- Contribute in special campaigns, thematic publications, and strategic communication initiatives.
- Support the review and evolution of WMO's editorial policies and style guides.
- Assist in training WMO staff in writing, media, and communications. QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master's degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, environmental studies, international relations, or a related discipline. A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the masterโs degree.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in publishing, editorial production, or science communication, preferably in an international or intergovernmental context.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of French, Spanish or other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

The position is funded from regular budget.
New appointments on fixed-term contract of one year or more shall be subject to an initial one-year probation period. SALARY AND ALLOWANCES
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 70212
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 62278 (in addition to the net base salary) Additional Information:
