Job Description

Role Purpose

The Coordinator is a middle management position within the State team. The position is responsible for overseeing Save the Children Australiaโ€™s Early Childhood programs as well as developing further opportunities for Save the Children.

This includes program development, monitoring and evaluation and business development aligned to organisational strategy. Additionally, the position is responsible for leading a team of committed professionals across Child Protection, Early Childhood and Domestic Emergencies, providing coaching and support within a strong people management framework.

This role will have a strong focus on developing community partnerships that support collaboration that support better outcomes for children

Key Areas of Accountability

STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT& ADVOCACY

Work with the State Manager to develop an operational plan for the state in accordance with the organisationโ€™s strategic plan, strategic growth and funding contracts. Work collaboratively with Government, non-Government and other community groups to grow Save the Children Australiaโ€™s impact and scale.

LEADERSHIP & HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Provide leadership, support and supervision to Project Leaders ensuring activities are aligned with the achievement of the strategic plan. Role model a culture of respect, partnership, strength based approach and excellence Undertake recruitment, induction, retention, management, training and development of the Regional staff in line with national HR guidelines and State Training Plans Manage staff performance including, coaching, performance appraisal, performance management and succession planning, in line with organisational guidelines. Develop and implement risk management plans which ensure regular and consistent monitoring of OH&S practices Ensure that policies and procedures are accessible to and followed by all staff

STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATION & PARTNERSHIPS

Ensure a high level of client focus is maintained in all working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders Represent Save the Children on key steering committees and at conferences and events Develop strategic partnerships Develop and maintain effective communication with government, non-government and community partners Participate proactively in all organisational requirements, as determined including audits, training & development, continuous improvement activities.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Ensure all programs delivered in the portfolio have quality and outcome indicators and are aligned to national program areas. Undertake strategic development, implementation and evaluation of programs. Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, legislation, standards and licenses. Ensure the high quality and continuous improvement of the programs. Ensure teams have an in-depth understanding of and use the Early Years Learning Framework as a basis for curriculum. Ensure learning journeys are created capturing childrenโ€™s interests and developmental milestones. Ensure all staff are aware of and implement current and innovative practice. Facilitate professional development for all staff and teams in consultation with team leaders. Ensure accurate data is collected and analysed for curriculum development and quality improvement.

FINANCIAL & BUDGETARY MANAGEMENT

Undertake financial management and monitoring of programs in collaboration with Team Leaders and Management Ensure the delivery of accurate financial and budgetary information within mandated requirements and in line with organisational guidelines Prepare funding submissions and annual budgets in conjunction with the Finance Manager and Regional Coordinator. Monitor and review the expenditure of the Program budgets Ensure all information and reports are prepared on time and with accuracy

Demonstrated ability to work with children and families from non-English speaking backgrounds. Strong time management and organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Proficient problem solving skills Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases & graphics). Ability to plan and manage a range of community activities. Budget Management Willingness and capacity to implement required Health and Safety policies and safe work practices

Knowledge/Experience

Proven experience in developing and managing high quality Early Childhood Education programs at a senior level Proven program and project development, implementation and management including budgetary control. Demonstrated experience managing staff member performance, including performance appraisal, professional development, coaching and mentoring staff. Demonstrated understanding of Child Development and Child Protection issues Prior experience working with culturally diverse communities and families, in particular Indigenous Australians. Prior experience in working with children and/or young people in a community development setting Previous relationship building experiences, particularly within local councils, youth, community and education sectors. Understanding of relevant legislation and ability to work in within a legislative framework

Qualifications/Accreditations

Degree/Diploma in Early Childhood Development or equivalent or, Current First Aid Certificate Possession and retention of a current Driverโ€™s License
