Duties and Accountabilities

Each Junior Analyst (ET Consultant) will work in one of the teams below. The position will have responsibilities for specific individual tasks/projects in one of Treasuryโ€™s departments and teams, and, depending on interest and skills, will perform some or all the following (non-exhaustive list, subject to business requirements):

Asset Management & Advisory Department (TREAA)ย 
ย 
The Asset Management & Advisory Department provides capacity-building services to public sector asset managers, including central banks, international financial institutions, public pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds, under the Reserve Advisory & Management Partnership (RAMP). The department is the liquidity and asset manager for RAMP clients, trust funds, and other external clients with over $70 billion AUM. It also supports over 30 technical workshops and thought leadership conferences each year, in addition to authoring original, leading publications on asset management.ย

Asset Management (TREAM)ย 
ย 
The team manages investment products for external clients and trust funds within investment guidelines and overall compliance requirements. The team is responsible for achieving competitive returns for all mandates, with prudent management of associated risks. They also achieve competitive excess return over the investment benchmarks of the investment mandates through an effective design of investment strategies across various asset classes.ย

Working under the direction of the TREAM supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Support portfolio managers in the execution of the investment policy and portfolio construction for various fixed-income portfolios,ย ย 
โ€ข Support the execution of money market and foreign exchange trades across portfolios,ย 
โ€ข Support the maintenance and development of quantitative models/tools,ย 
โ€ข Keep abreast of market developments affecting different asset classes with a view to identifying investment opportunities in fixed income and implications for existing portfolios under management,ย 
โ€ข Support the periodic review of investment portfolios under management, including preparation of materials,ย 
โ€ข Participate in professional collaboration, advisory engagements and workshops with official sector asset managers and other official sector institutions,ย 
โ€ข Maintain excellent relations with external counterparts, and promote reputation of the Bank in financial markets and among its clients,ย 
โ€ข Contribute to additional projects as needed within the department.ย 

Advisory & Partnership (TREAP)ย 
ย 
The team is responsible for administering the RAMP program, including developing project plans and leading capacity-building activities for official sector asset managers on all aspects of asset management. Engagement managers design, budget, implement and evaluate an annual engagement plan and deliver and coordinate advisory services to RAMP clients. The team leads business strategy and outreach to prospective clients for RAMP and external asset management services.ย

Working under the direction of the TREAP supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Support maintaining and updating current, former, prospective, and partner institution and country information in client databases, including but not limited to CMP, eTCC, and RBAT;ย ย 
โ€ข Support collection of information from members, such as workshop slot preferences;
โ€ข Assist in IT projects, including system planning, testing, implementation, and evaluation;
โ€ข Assist in outreach activities by helping to enhance communication, marketing, and branding;
โ€ข Support data maintenance and collection for internal reporting, such as the Weekly Dashboard, QBRR, TOC, and contributions to the WB Annual Report;
โ€ข Edit documents, emails, spreadsheets, PowerPoints, and other files for accuracy, clarity, and consistency with World Bank and TREAA style and protocols; and
โ€ข Support business strategy development, development, and outreach to prospective clients for the RAMP Program and external asset management clients.

Products, Knowledge & Research (TREPK)ย

The team is responsible for delivering advisory, expertise, and training to RAMP clients. Subject matter experts produce notes, working papers, and applied research on asset management to support clients and contribute to the public asset management community. The team also leads and coordinates the development of investment products and provides analytical support to the asset management team. In addition, the team implements technical training programs, including workshops, webinars, and internships.ย

Working under the direction of the TREPK supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Support technical advisory through missions, ad-hoc consultations, workshops, conferences, and webinars on asset management (governance, investment policy, asset allocation), responsible investing, risk management, and other areas of expertise relevant to official sector asset management;ย 
โ€ข Produce knowledge and research content relevant to Trust Funds, RAMP members, and other clients, including applied research papers/notes;ย 
โ€ข Provide background research for applied research notes related to client advisory activities;ย 
โ€ข Assist in IT projects, including system planning, testing, implementation, and evaluation;ย 
โ€ข Contribute to the learning content in strategic asset allocation (governance, investment policy, asset allocation), responsible investing (including ESG), risk management, and other official sector asset management areas as needed;ย 
โ€ข Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of quantitative models, and provide quantitative research for client advisory and investment products;ย 
โ€ข Support the development of new investment products in coordination with TREAP, TREAM, and other relevant units in Treasury;ย

Capital Markets & Investments Department (TRECI)ย 
ย 
The Capital Markets & Investments Department is responsible for issuing World Bank bonds in the international capital markets to finance projects in World Bank member countries. Treasury borrows over $60 billion annually, issued in over 70 currencies, and oversees asset and liability management for IBRD and IDA, with over $150 billion AUM. Treasury also works with clients on risk management transactions and contributes to the World Bank's development through innovative financing, risk management solutions, green bonds, and disaster risk management tools like catastrophe bonds.ย

ALM & Policy (CMIAP)ย 
ย 
The team is responsible for analytics, monitoring, and policy formulations for activities that impact IBRD and IDA's balance sheets. The team formulates policies, guidelines, and processes that impact the financial risk and income of IBRD and IDA. The team also provides liquidity calculation, reporting, and rating agencies' analysis.ย 
ย 
Working under the direction of the CMIAP supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Analyze and review credit rating reports for IBRD/IDA/IFFIm;ย ย 
โ€ข Validate the annual data submission from financial reports produced by the World Bank's Finance and Accounting (WFA) team and investigate discrepancies from Enterprise Data Management (EDM);ย 
โ€ข Support the annual credit rating meetings for IBRD/IDA/IFFIm, such as agendas, summaries, invoices, etc.;ย  ย ย 
โ€ข Update the Treasurer's and Asset and Liability Management (ALM) dashboards;ย 
โ€ข Assist with the trading activities of the ALM team, such as creating term sheets and pricing financial instruments;ย 
โ€ข Assist with pre/post-trade execution processes such as bookings, trade updates, etc.;ย 
โ€ข Monitor IBRD' and IDA's liquidity levels;ย 
โ€ข Monitor IDA encashment and SDR rebalancing as needed;ย  ย

Debt Origination (CMIDO)ย ย 

The team is responsible for raising long and short-term funding in the global capital markets for both IBRD and IDA. The goal is to achieve funding on a sustainable basis and at the best possible cost through a variety of programs, markets, currencies, and instruments, including both plain vanilla and structured notes. The team also executes $50 billion equivalent notional swaps to hedge issuances.ย ย 

Working under the direction of the CMIDO supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย  ย 

โ€ข Supporting the team in preparing and designing funding transactions for IBRD and IDA. Reviewing the transactions terms and book the trades in the internal system (Murex)ย ย 
โ€ข Updating the funding pricing, from benchmark transactions to private placement, including structured notes;ย ย 
โ€ข Preparing presentations regarding the team organization and its role within the Treasury department;ย ย 
โ€ข Providing analysis on different activities: Discount Notes (dealers, investors, flows), Benchmarks (Investors, league tables), private placement (vanilla, callable); ย ย 
โ€ข Participating in preparing internal reports such as End of Month funding levels (IBRD, IDA, IFFim), ALCO; ย ย 
โ€ข Update and complement internal trade booking procedures;
โ€ข Maintaining high standard relationship with external counterparties such as dealers, investment banksย ย

Financial Products & Client Solutions (CMIFP)ย 

The team helps clients find solutions for their development financing and risk management needs leveraging IBRD and IDA's financial products and TRE's financial expertise and market access. It provides support for IBRD and IDA operations and clients on the full menu of financial and risk management products, pricing and loan customization, blending and co-financing, IDA to IBRD transition, and thematic bond issuance strategies and reporting, among other areas.ย

Working under the direction of the CMIFP supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Collaborate with senior bankers in the delivery of customized financial solutions for client countries;ย ย 
โ€ข Provide indicative pricing for loan conversions and other risk management products (interest rate fixings, currency conversions, prepayments, etc.);ย 
โ€ข Support day-to-day interaction with clients on IBRD financial products (loan terms and conditions, pricing, risk management, conversion options, etc.);ย 
โ€ข Generate and maintain financial models to illustrate loan-specific cash flows (e.g., scenario and sensitivity analyses) for advisory on financial optimization (e.g., blend finance) and loan customizations;ย ย 
โ€ข Assist in analytical work for new product development and support new team initiatives;ย ย 
โ€ข Draft cost comparison reports on IBRD's lending cost vs. other sources of funding as requested (e.g., for Annual and Spring Meetings);ย ย 
โ€ข Participate along with senior bankers in the delivery of capacity building and training on IBRD financial products and financial risk management;ย 
โ€ข Help senior bankers draft case studies and related marketing materials to promote CMIFP's financial solutions;ย

Investor Relations & Sustainable Finance (CMIIS)ย 
ย 
The team cultivates, maintains, and strengthens investor, rating agency, and financial media relationships for IBRD, IDA, and IFFIm to help achieve TRECI's funding goals. The team manages outreach activities to contribute to the World Bank's development mandate and build sustainable capital markets. They engage investors and market participants on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.ย

Working under the direction of the CMIIS supervisor, the Junior Analyst will:ย ย 

โ€ข Support the team's bond investor outreach activities, including joining meetings and recording meeting notes and other information in the investor database;
โ€ข Develop and update investor communication and reporting materials, both for with financial reporting information and risk management policies as well as impact and sustainability reporting for World Bank bond investors;
โ€ข Research methodologies of ESG (environment, social, governance) research firms and provide updated data and information;
โ€ข Prepare, extract and analyze data from structured and unstructured datasets using machine learning tools;
โ€ข Provide creative design support to various departments' communication and conference materials;
โ€ข Provide creative design support to various departments' communication and conference materials;
โ€ข Contribute to management briefing notes, articles, and capital markets / financial data analysis; and
โ€ข Work on other ad hoc activities to support the team.

Treasury Operations Department (TREOP)ย 
ย 
The Treasury Operations Department supports all transaction activity across both sides of the balance sheet for IBRD and IDA, as well as all asset management transactions for client entities. The unit collaborates with other teams within and outside Treasury to enable trading in new markets, currencies, and products and implements new clients. Managing relationships with market counterparts, custodians, agents, and technology vendors, the unit leverages its knowledge and expertise to build capacity amongst clients. In addition, TREOP acts as the bank for the World Bank Group by supporting business units with payments, receipts, foreign exchange, and cash management needs. It establishes and manages all bank account relationships, routing details, and settlement instructions. It is also responsible for the reconciliation, investigations, and cash accounting for the World Bank's cash flowsโ€”totaling over $7 trillion yearly.ย 

Financial Technology (TREFT)ย ย 

TREFT coordinates the efficient internal administration of World Bank Treasury's Information Technology infrastructure across all institutional, project, maintenance, budget, and planning cycles.ย  The team also develops and maintains appropriate strategic technology planning concerning Treasury's significant standing in the global financial markets and leverages that standing to build internal and external partnerships for fintech developments.ย  ย 
Current technology initiatives include leading Treasuryโ€™s participation in large scale asset and liability system renewal, and emerging technology projects in fintech fields, such as Blockchain/DLT, Asset Tokenization, Digital Currencies , Robotic Processing and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.ย  This position is an extraordinary opportunity to engage at the forefront of Fintech application in support of World Bankโ€™s financial and development agenda, to leverage Treasuryโ€™s market standing and global reach and to work in partnership with the Bankโ€™s Innovation Lab and external partners.ย  Working under the direction of the Lead Financial Officer, the Junior Analyst will:ย  ย

Selection Criteria

Candidates who have the following are encouraged to apply:

1. Graduated with the equivalent of a bachelorโ€™s degree in business, finance, economics or related field within the last year (anticipates graduating with the equivalent of a four-year college degree between December 2025 and September 2026)

2. Demonstrated paid work experience in financial setting is required, and a strong preference for experience that relates to the work program of the hiring team;

3. Strong research, analytical, and quantitative skills for data management;
