Embedded in the Poverty and Equity Global Department, Data for Goals (D4G) is a team of data scientists and economists tasked with monitoring the World Bank Groupโs (WBG) poverty and shared prosperity goals. The D4G team is responsible for developing tools, systems and protocols, in partnership with ITS, DEC teams, and the Regional Teams for Statistical Development, to automate and ease the workflow for the production of the Global and Regional poverty and shared prosperity monitoring of the World Bank. These data collections managed by the D4G team include the Global Monitoring Database (GMD) and the Global Monitoring Indicators (GMI) database that are used to produce regional and global poverty estimates and inform high profile corporate products such as WDI, Poverty, Prosperity and Planet Reports , and the World Bank Scorecard .
In addition, the team is also responsible for regular analytical products such as Poverty and Equity Briefs, macro-poverty projections, and at-a-glance notes, as well as to provide just-in-time requests to support and leverage the work of the Poverty and Equity GD Poverty Economists.
Scope of work and tasksย
The D4G team is looking for a junior extended term consultant (ETC) to support the team with program management of the overall global program as well as for the management of specific data tasks. The main tasks include but are not limited to the following:ย
โข Support to maintenance data management systems and data update, the implementation and documentation of the global poverty/indicator update (i.e. multidimensional poverty and shared prosperity databases), and other quantitative tasks (such as collaboration with other UN agencies) as needed;โข Set up and/or maintain project management systems including trackers for ongoing activities, individual follow-ups with team members and partners in other teams;โข Support task leaders with deadline management for the program, proactively engaging team members to ensure tasks are delivered on time;โข Support specific D4G product delivery (such as Poverty and Equity Briefs, Macro Poverty Outlook, IDA reporting, and others);โข Set up and participate in meetings with the D4G team and other units and document discussion and agreements;โข Support the team with the preparation of reporting documents, including mid-year reviews, concept notes, and decision meetings as needed;โข Support the preparation of financial reporting and budget tracking;โข Support the preparation of contracts and contractual materials;โข Support the team with the implementation of data privacy as needed;โข Write, edit, and review documents as needed.ย Duration and location
This contract will be for one year, based in Washington, DC, with the possibility of extensions based on performance. Selection Criteria
โข Masterโs degree in international development, international relations, management, economics or related field, with at least two years of relevant professional experience in the topical areas described below, or equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated project management experience and aptitude.
โข Strong quantitative and analytical background highly desirable, including:
o Experience with data management, household surveys and data harmonization.
o Excellent programming skills with STATA.
o Knowledge of programming languages like R is a plus.
o Experience with poverty data and welfare aggregates.
โข Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
โข Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and capably handle multiple tasks within tight deadlines.ย
โข Ability to work proactively with limited direct supervision.
โข Good interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, commanding respect from colleagues in the absence of formal authority.
โข Good writing and editing skills.
