Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the worldโs largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies (NSs). The overall aim of IFRC is โto inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by NSs with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.โ IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
The IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
The IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into four main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Coordination, (ii) Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization, (iii) Management and Accountability and (iv) People and Strategy.
The IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas. IFRC also has country cluster delegations and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.
The IFRC has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment and other forms of harassment, abuse of authority, discrimination, and lack of integrity (including but not limited to financial misconduct). IFRC also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to carry out the duties of the IFRC driver and administrative support in Abuja Delegation Office in accordance with IFRC standards. The Driver is responsible for driving the IFRC team members, materials and equipment for the programs activities and will perform miscellaneous job-related duties.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
โข Understand and obey all traffic laws and regulations in Nigeria and transiting countries.
โข To drive the assigned vehicle according to the IFRC driver rules and regulations and directive for the Use of IFRC Vehicles in Nigeria.
โข Ensure that all occupants of the vehicle are wearing safety belts, as well as vehicle cargo is adequately secured and safe.
โข Be accountable for the proper use and security of the assigned IFRC vehicle and the equipment (e.g radios, antennae, etc).
โข Drive safely and responsibly, ensure ecological driving behaviour and best environmentally protective practices, and comply with the driving laws of the country, and strictly adhere to speed limits, and the rules set by the Abuja Delegation Office , Nigeria.
โข Draft and follow up with import/exemption duty certificates (IDEC) and pre-customs clearance process from the ministries and customs including Delegate STR and visa processing.
โข Follow up monthly service repairs and generate reports.
โข Make any such repairs that are necessary for the efficient operation of the vehicles including changing tires in case of a puncture, changing oils, car batteries, etc
โข Perform daily inspections in the mornings before the assigned vehicle use, upon completion of a field trip, and/or upon handover of any other IFRC vehicle as instructed.
โข Complete the vehicle logbook after each trip and ensure that all vehicle faults are reported to Senior Logistics and Procurement Officer.
โข Advise the Senior Procurement & Logistics Officer of needed repairs or regular maintenance service of the assigned vehicle at least five days in advance.
โข Comply with the driving hours as regulated.
โข Support the Senior Log/Proc Officer by providing input into Fleet Wave reporting
โข Support the Senior Log/Proc Officer with any other Fleet reporting as required
โข Report any vehicle-related incident or accident.
โข Ensure that the IFRC vehicles are parked in a safe and secure location and all doors are properly locked.
โข Implement and maintain the standard practices in accordance with the IFRC Fleet Manual and perform any other functions identified by the Administration Officer.
โข Perform other logistics, administrative and technical duties as assigned.
Education
- Secondary level education, Preferred diploma degree (Required)
- Valid Nigerian driving license and valid certificate of good conduct. (Required)
- Trade test certificate (Required)
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of driving experience- (Required)
- Good communication (oral and written) skills. (Required)
- A clean driving record. (Required)
- A polite and professional disposition. (Required)
- Experience in working for the Red Cross / Red Crescent (Preferred)
- Working experience with international organizations, NGO, Nigerian ministries or Embassy is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
- Proficient computer skills
- Mechanical knowledge, training in first aid or security is an advantage
