Mission and objectivesThe fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the Organization does โ in programmes, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to childrenโs rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life โ in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions โ her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a societyโs most disadvantaged citizens โ addressing inequity โ not only will give more children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.
ContextThe year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of UNICEFโs operations in The Gambia. In November, UNICEF Gambia will commemorate this occasion with a UNICEF @ 60 gala event. This milestone event will celebrate six decades of achievements and lessons learned, while also looking ahead to future priorities for child rights in The Gambia. The event will convene a diverse group of stakeholders โ including government partners, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), development partners, UN agencies, private sector actors, and children and adolescents โ to reflect on progress and envision the future of child rights in the country. The Gambia Country Office (CO) is seeking an online volunteer with Digital Media skills to contribute to strengthening the visibility and social media engagement around the UNICEF @ 60 event. The online volunteer will be part of UNICEF Gambiaโs Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships unit.
Task DescriptionTo produce periodic newsletters for the country office, UNICEF Gambia seeks support from an Online Volunteer, who, under the guidance of the Partnerships Manager and in close collaboration with the Communications Officer, will: - Support in the creation and management of UNICEF@60 eventโs digital strategy to grow online presence through social media. - Create, edit and/or author communications for UNICEF@60 event, across UNICEF Gambia website, major social accounts, and infographics. - Develop creative ways to drive traffic to the country website and improve rankings on search engines, during UNICEF@60 event. - Monitor social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram. - Oversee social media and web-based coverage for UNICEF@60 event. - Support in running analytics for all social marketing campaigns for UNICEF@60 event including providing analytics and lessons learned.
