About this position
We are looking for an analytical, creative and detail-oriented data visualization & BI Expert consultant to join the Regional and Sectoral Data Group within our Research Department.
The Regional and Sectoral Data Group (RSD) coordinates and supports the efficient management and governance of regional and sectoral data generated or obtained through research, knowledge, and operational work that is not produced in the Bankโs systems nor owned by the Bank but falls under the responsibility and/or custody of the IDB. This includes both traditional (censuses, surveys, administrative records) and non-traditional (social networks, digital footprints, satellite imagery, etc.) data sources extensively used across various departments.
The Regional and Sectoral Data (RSD) Team seeks to optimize data pipelines and implement scalable data solutions. To support these efforts, we are looking for a Data Visualization & Business Intelligence Consultant to develop interactive dashboards, data intelligence products, and reports that enhance data accessibility and usability. The consultant will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and governance specialists to translate complex datasets into visually compelling and meaningful insights.
What youโll do
- Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and other BI tools to support data-driven decision-making
- Create compelling data visualizations tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Leverage visual storytelling techniques to effectively communicate trends, insights, and strategic messages
- Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to clean, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources for visualization
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and key business insights
- Optimize BI dashboards for performance through efficient data modeling, query tuning, and ETL pipeline refinement
- Ensure all visualizations adhere to data governance policies, privacy standards, and access control requirements
- Align BI solutions with the organizationโs data management and security frameworks through collaboration with governance teams
- Partner with internal teams to understand reporting needs and contribute to capacity-building through guidance on visualization best practices
What you'll need
โข Education: Bachellorโs degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Intelligence, or a related field (required). Master's degree is preferable.
โข Experience: 2 years of experience in data visualization, business intelligence, or data analytics. More than 5 years of experience are desirable.
โข Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish; additional knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
Skills
- Expertise in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling
- Strong skills in SQL, Python, or R for data manipulation and transformation
- Experience working with data governance frameworks
- Ability to translate complex datasets into visually compelling insights for decision-makers
- Experience with geospatial data visualization and AI-driven BI tools (desirable)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
- Attention to detail and user-centered design thinking
Requirements

Type of contract and duration
โข International consultant Full-Time, 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 36 months
