The Data Scientist reports to a Management and Programme Analyst, P4. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Data Scientist will be responsible for the following duties: • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data and technology to drive corporate level business solutions. • Mine and analyze data from organization databases to drive optimization and improvement of programme development, advocacy and business strategies. • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques. • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize entity experiences, benefit realization and other business outcomes. • Develop organization A/B testing framework and test model quality. • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement corporate data analytics projects and monitor outcomes. • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy. • Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies· Professionalism: Knowledge of the data analysis life cycle from ingest and wrangling to analysis and visualization to present findings. Excellent knowledge of statistical and computational methods, such as clustering, classification, correlation, dimension reduction, forecasting, machine learning, detecting outliers, and regression. EducationAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in data science, computer science, information management, statistics, public administration, public information, management or a related field. A first-level university degree in the relevant fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in data analytics, data science, business analysis, applied mathematics, information management or related area is required. At least two years of experience in engaging with clients and developing needs-based analysis for the advancement of their data and digital transformation strategy is required. At least one year of experience in developing and implementing AI products using Microsoft suite, including Copilot Studio, is required. Experience leveraging Data Science tools such as Jupyter, Matlab, Knime, SPSS, SAS, or similar Statistical Programming Languages such as R, Python, Javascript tools for large datasets such as Hadoop, Spark, or related is required. Experience in the implementation and/or support of enterprise data analytics product using PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, SAP Analytics Cloud is desirable. Experience in the UN system or comparable international organizations is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
