Your role
ECMWF is implementing a corporate strategy to embed artificial intelligence across its support functions, including Finance, HR, Procurement, Communications, Legal, IT, and Facilities. This transformation aims to improve efficiency, scalability, and service quality, while aligning with broader digital and ERP integration goals. The strategy is guided by a phased roadmap and supported by a dedicated AI Task Force.
This role is designed to fill a critical knowledge and capacity gap in the organisation, supporting the implementation of ECMWFโs AI Corporate Strategy (2026โ2035). You will be a member of the AI Task Force and contribute to its coordination and oversight activities. You will work closely with external consultants - who will be engaged through a separate procurement process - to support the assessment of workflows, data systems, and operational needs. You will help translate findings into actionable plans, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and provide technical and strategic input to ensure coherent and responsible adoption of AI technologies across corporate functions. At ECMWF, you will join a passionate community collectively aiming to bring novel technologies and science to cutting-edge numerical weather prediction. ECMWF has been the first operational weather centre globally to implement and operate an AI driven weather forecasting model โ marked by the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System (AIFS) in February 2025.
The AI Coordinator will facilitate the organic integration of AI solutions across the organisation, supporting corporate objectives. You will serve as the primary point of coordination for AI-related initiatives, helping the organisation adopt AI in line with its corporate strategy, security, and risk management.

Your responsibilities
Coordinate and support the implementation of the AI Corporate Strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities, ERP planning, and the work of the AI Task Force.Act as the primary internal counterpart for the external consultants, preparing teams for interviews and workshops, ensuring high-quality inputs (process maps, documents, datasets), and overseeing day-to-day coordination of all workstreams.Review and challenge (existing and proposed) consultant assessments of corporate workflows, systems, and operational needs, ensuring proposals are feasible, compliant, and aligned with corporate processes (HR, Finance, Procurement, Contract Management, Communications, Service Desk).Help define and refine AI use cases, translating business needs into clear problem statements, identifying data and integration requirements, and ensuring consistency across units.Support the design and delivery of pilot AI initiatives, especially in areas such as intelligent document handling, dashboards and analytics, knowledge management, and process automation.Ensure proposed solutions maximise existing tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Power BI, ERP modules) and recommend alternatives where they offer clear added value.Contribute to governance, compliance, and risk management activities, ensuring that consultant outputs align with GDPR, organisational security standards, and responsible AI principles.Assist in preparing technical and functional specifications for any processes related to AI corporate systems or services.Support capacity-building efforts, helping design and deliver training, awareness, and change-management activities so staff understand new AI-enabled ways of working.Monitor the progress, benefits, and risks of AI initiatives, preparing updates for senior management and governance bodies, and ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.
What we're looking for
Proven experience in supporting the development of AI strategies, as well as of the implementation thereof, ideally within public sector or an international organisation.Strong understanding of applied AI and automation, including: large language models (LLMs), intelligent document processing, dashboarding and analytics, workflow automation / RPA .Demonstrated experience of integrating AI into existing workflows and IT infrastructure.Strong understanding of organisational change, stakeholder engagement, and digital governance, particularly in the context of applying AI/ML tools.Ability to communicate with and engage a wide audience is essential.Commitment to inclusive innovation and responsible digital transformation is essential.Proven experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder transformation projects is essential.Ability to understand and map corporate workflows, processes, and system dependencies is essential.Knowledge of GDPR, cybersecurity, risk management and ethical AI frameworks are essential.Ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster collaboration is essential.Experience managing pilots, proofs of concept, and iterative development cycles is desirable.Experience of working in a scientific or intergovernmental organisation would be an advantage.Advanced degree in data science, digital transformation, computer science or related areas linked to the responsibilities of the position or equivalent experience.Candidates must be able to work effectively in English. Knowledge of one of the Centreโs other working languages (French or German) would be an advantage but is not essential.
