The Controller is responsible for driving all Partners In Health (PIH) activities related to accounting processes & procedures, standard reporting processes, and audit support. As a key leader on the Finance team, the Controller will manage a team of five to seven people, oversee the domestic and international accounting work of all PIH-supported sites, and work to develop a global team of well-trained finance professionals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead the global finance teams (close to 200 professionals across 12 different countries) in the development and implementation of best practices and proper internal control procedures; provide ongoing guidance and mentorship with a focus on accounting systems, process improvements, and local audits.
  • Lead the preparation of annual financial statements and ensure annual audits are performed in accordance with the Office of Management and Budgets (OMB) Uniform Grant Guidance, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and/or other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Oversee U.S. nonprofit tax filings including federal form 990, 990T, IRS schedules as related to foreign entities, and state exempt organization tax filings as applicable.
  • Responsible for the execution of all accounting-related functions at the U.S. Coordination Site including, but not limited to, the monthly and annual close processes, the maintenance of internal control and safeguarding systems, foreign currency translation, and cash management.
  • Develop and oversee accounting policies, ensuring adherence and compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Lead the promotion of โ€˜efficient frugalityโ€™, as well as develop and monitor expense analyses for key PIH locations.
  • Oversee the financial statement consolidation process, including preparing and reviewing monthly reporting packages, monitoring progress, and keeping senior leadership abreast of PIHโ€™s financial status.
  • Lead on preparing materials for the Board of Directors and Audit Committee, accompanied by occasional presentation to these leadership bodies.
  • Manage PIHโ€™s U.S.-based banking relationships and closely monitor working capital, moving cash between PIHโ€™s endowment, checking, and money market accounts as necessary.
  • Oversee the financial reporting and management of complex nonprofit giving vehicles, including but not limited to endowments, cryptocurrencies, charitable gift annuities, and legacy gift distributions.
  • Serve as the in-house expert on technical accounting issues and as a valued finance partner to other team leads; research new accounting standards and implement processes to ensure compliance; prepare, review, and update accounting related policy and memo as needed.
  • Lead strategy, design and implementation of financial reporting and accounting systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of Bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university.
    • Certified Public Accounting designation (CPA) required.
    • Minimum 10 years progressively responsible accounting experience.
    • Minimum 4 years supervisory level experience and demonstrated ability to lead across a range of cultures, personalities, and competencies.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced U.S. not-for-profit GAAP, OMG Uniform Grant Guidance, financial reporting, accounting systems and accounting software is required. Experience with Microsoft Navision preferred.
